    Renting Nitrox Question

I've been to Coz a couple of times, but it wasn't a big op. Clearly I was making some unwarranted assumptions, since 3 of you right in a row shot down my statement!

    Renting Nitrox Question

Green dust cap? Every nitrox tank I've seen has had a big, fat green and yellow sticker that makes it pretty much impossible to mix up nitrox tanks with air tanks.

    Why We Dive

It's right up there with skiing and photography in that respect!

ExPat shore diver missing - Cozumel

Yes, surge is the term for what you experienced, and it's very common in my area. There are ways of using it to your advantage if you can swim along the bottom, but doing it in mid-water could be exhausting.

However, the husband is still alive, so HIPAA may put a crimp in releasing the analyses. Of course, he can release the info himself if he wants...

Nitrox or Air for 3 days dives?

That was going to be my question: is your air consumption low enough for NDL to be limiting?

    Renting Nitrox Question

When I was in Coz, the dive op required the nitrox users to analyze (or watch them analyze) and mark their own tanks before signing the log. Then the op carried the tanks to the boat, and each person found their own labeled tanks to set up their gear.

Yeah, that's what I like about it too. My regular shop often ends up with 1 - 2 ppm CO in the tanks, but I haven't figured out why, and the owner hasn't either.

Rust doesn't give off anything, it just uses up oxygen, leaving pretty much just nitrogen and the various trace gasses that are in air.

I had never heard of this phenomenon before, so I guess I'll start testing them all.

    SPG vs. gauge

Console (with compass) clipped to my left waist d-ring, and a wrist compass. I bought the reg set used and that console is how it came, but I found I didn't like the compass on the console, so I bought the wrist-mounted one. So now I have redundant compass, redundant depth gauge (with my...

The COOTwo is the one I have, and it seems to work well. I don't test every tank, but I test every fill (If I have two tanks filled at the same time, I don't test both of them).

    Contact Lenses vs Prescription Mask

That is an interesting question! I'll see if I can come up with a test for it. I'm pretty much blind as a bat without my contacts (extremely near-sighted)

    Contact Lenses vs Prescription Mask

I've nearly lost contacts while wearing them in heavy rain when a drop went directly into my eye, but not while diving. I do keep my eyes partly shut while swimming, so that my eyelids kind of hold the lenses in place, but I can still see just fine.

    Hang tanks and floats

That's similar to what my instructor built, except he uses a plastic milk crate. I'd go with the rope to hang the tank, so you can cut it if necessary.

    Double hose manufacturers

I'm in the market for a new reg anyway, so this is just another option for me to investigate. I don't know anyone who dives one, though.

    Contact Lenses vs Prescription Mask

I have worn extended-wear disposable soft contacts on every dive I've ever done, including OW, and have never had trouble with them during a mask flood/removal/replacement. They stay in place even while swimming, and only sting slightly for a minute or two after exposure to salt water, then...

    Diesel fumes

When I was in Cozumel in September, people were complaining about the fumes in the boat, which got pretty nasty depending on the relative wind. Just out of curiosity, I pulled out my CO/O2 meter to see what we were breathing. It measured 10 ppm CO or so when the fumes were strong. No CO...
