    Pro Dive Cairns Review

+1 on talking to the ACCC. They might be able to help, although I would have thought this would have been covered by your travel insurance? Doesn't make up for the inconvenience but at least you might get some money back. Either way it's a terrible situation to have to go through. I hope the...

    Extra Skills Training

It was not part of my AOW course but I requested it specifically and the instructor was happy to oblige. I think it should be tought as part of OW and wouldn't dive in the ocean without SMB and Spool.

Why are We So Quick to Blamestorm?

Yes, I have offered people advice, however it really was a simple as recommending they keep the reg in their mouth as they nearly drown trying to use a snorkel after a dive in rough seas... I have seen that one quite a bit actually. There are two groups when it comes to advice, those who know...

Why are We So Quick to Blamestorm?

This is an interesting thread, I think the reason most look to blame storm is due to a lack of education at the earlier levels of training. From what I have seen it is rarely the experienced diver blaming the DM for not paying close enough attention to them. When I started diving I had the...

    February & March 2012 - Aussie diving!

They are some amazing photos, really impressive. The diving up here has been pretty good lately. Got to hang out with two mantas at Julian Rocks two weeks ago, as well as the leopard sharks and a couple of eagle rays that went past really fast. Cook Island this weekend, supposedly there is...

looking at signing up aussies opinion on which school plz help

I have dived with both, but not done any training with them. Scubaworld is my preferred operation up there. Very organised and professional team. Good boat and nice people. I believe the wetsuits are 'neptune' brand. As the others have said it really comes down to the instructor. Talk to both...

Video: SCUBA Failure at 80 Feet, Yesterday

Instabuddies?? He's got the drop on quite a few DM's I've seen!:D +1 on the spear fishing debate, sure it might look a little confronting to some, but it has to be the most humane and ecologically sustainable method of collecting fish there is. Nice video.

Have you ever done anything on a dive that you KNEW you weren't supposed to?

Very early on we did a dive with a company in Croatia. Looking back I realise how bad it was, we rented all our gear and the regs had an SPG, that's it, there were no depth gauges for customers. My wife finished her dive on the DM's octo because she was well below the 'back on board' pressure...

    Mares Abyss 42 Pressures

Thanks everyone. I had my regs tuned by a different shop and they have been set to the pressures you have recommended. (octos might be a little bit higher at 1.6") I just need to dive them now....

    SB Report Card: Part 2

I think it is a mostly friendly place that is moderated very well. I think people would benefit from lurking before diving in sometimes. If you look for negatives you can find them, if you look for the good in this place you'll be a lot happier.

    Boltsnap breakaways

Thanks everyone for the responses. I dive single tank open water so entanglement is not really a high risk. I can certainly see the disadvantage to using the o ring method now. I was looking at this from the perspective of having the longhose clipped off, but needing to donate it to an OOA...

    Thanks Padi-sons grades now improved

Awesome, sounds like a good way to encourage him. Finish your homework and we can go diving... that's a win-win situation if ever there was one.

    Bitterness of Scuba Instructors

Wow, I'm sorry you feel that way, it wasn't my intention. I'll leave it at that.

    Bitterness of Scuba Instructors

Scubaboard is a big beast, and you have done an admirable job in highlighting aspects of it that you feel could be improved, however if you don't accept it for what it is and try to fit in... well, you might not fit in. I think this analogy is flawed for a few reasons, as katepnatl mentioned...

    Bitterness of Scuba Instructors

I try hard to be as polite as possible on this board (sometimes overly so) because ,as others have mentioned, context and expression can be hard in print. To me, the fact that this thread is 18 pages and you're still following/posting shows that you might be a bit too sensitive with these...

Any suggestions for traveling / diving Australia's Sunshine Coast?

On the sunshine coast I would also recommend Scubaworld. They have a great boat and run good trips. Ex.HMAS Brisbane is a fun dive, and their local reefs are underrated IMO. I have heard good things about Wolf rock, but have never dived there personally. In Brisbane I dive with Godive...

    Boltsnap breakaways

Hi, This is a question that arose on a different thread and I wanted to get some opinions on it. Do you use breakaway connectors on your longhose and SPG boltsnaps? What is the Hog position on this and why? I have no tech training but was told by an instructor that you should always use a...
