    Posting photos in Threads

Not sure if this is the right place but I'm having trouble posting photos. My understanding is I can just click and drag from a file on my computer directly to the post I'm typing? When I tried that it said I had exceeded my number of characters. The post was short so I was nowhere near 15,000...

    Aussie diving - June 2012

They're great shots bfowles, where were they taken? I went for a dive on the ex-HMAS Brisbane last weekend, Vis was ok at about 8m and 20deg. Took it very slow along the main deck and was surprised at the amount of life getting around there. There's a big resident octopus who wasn't bothered by...

    Sharkskin brand wetsuits

I have a long sleeve top that I bought for a trip to Fiji. Was diving in 26/27c temps (80F) with it and boardshorts. As mentioned they don't really stretch at all, so can be a bit of a wrestle to get it on and off. Mine seems to be very good quality, no problems yet. They can start to stink if...

Pacific Air - don't fly them they are the worst!

If you mentioned it I must have missed it but were your bags over the weight limits? Wy do you think you were singled out for the harsh treatment? I flew Air Pacific and overall had a pleasant experience. I knew the weight limits would be strictly enforced (we flew on a very small plane) and...

5' or 7' long hose for open water?

I dive with a five foot hose, I tried a swivel but it didn't work for me. It routes nicely and has no excess to deal with. I haven't tried a seven foot so I can't compare them but what I have works for my diving. You're welcome to try it when we finally catch up for that dive.

Help?? Something fell off the top of my Mares MR42t but I don't know what it is.

Looks exactly the same as mine. Could it have been a dust cover used in shipping perhaps?

    Melbourne Annual Spider Crab Migration

I'm just glad their not the size of their Japanese cousins... japanese-spider-crab. Stack those guys five or six deep and I would think the invasion had started!

    Remote, non-liveaboard diving

We recently went to heron for about 4 days. The island itself is beautiful, awesome beaches for chilling out, really quite good food and nice rooms. We were lucky enough to be there right at the end of the turtle hatchling season and saw a few of the little guys emerging one night. That was a...

Brisbane divers - fancy a GC seaway excursion?

That'd be awesome. @Ozgriffo, do you know any dates when your next trip up here might be? @Mdeere I'm glad you finally worked out how to use a computer... How do people feel about Cook Island? I know Cooly dive has a nice big boat and it might be a little nicer than the sea way? I'm out for...

Sharing air to extend bottom time

On our third dive after certification the DM encouraged my wife to continue her dive on his occy even though her tank was down to about 30bar (plan was to surface with 50) With no pre-planning, that late in the dive, with a very inexperienced diver, I realise now it was a terrible decision. If...

Abdomen Punch to open airway in Unconscious Diver

I was told a story by an instructor that he had a student in full panic who wanted to bolt to the surface. He said he punched them in the abdomen a number of times on the way up to ensure an open airway. Not sure how much of it was exaggeration and how much was true, but for a panicked diver I...

How long to wait AFTER scuba diving BEFORE conception?

My wife and I went through this (with successful results thankfully) and were never told there was a recommended time to wait. All advice we have received is to not dive if you are or could be pregnant. I'd speak to your doctor or DAN and see what they say. Good luck.

    Aussie diving - May 2012

 Where could you possibly go for your holidays!!?! Or do you go spend two weeks in some faceless cubical in an office somewhere just for a change? Seriously jealous Alcina... It all sounds fantastic.

    Aussie diving - May 2012

Fantastic photos of the Porcelain Crabs Alcina, I don't know why but the small crustaceans are my favourite thing to spot. Glad the diving was good at Julian Rocks for you mantra. It's hard to have a bad dive down there, and with 15m vis you can't go wrong! I know what you mean about hugo's. It...

    2nd stage accordion noise

I've never heard of regs making noise when exhaling...If there's time I'd try it hooked up to a tank at your LDS. If you're heading down to Sundive you could jump in their pool with it before the boats leave. I know Dave down there is a bit of a guru with regs. He might be able to help you?

Diving in Portugal or Southern Spain

We did our check out dives in Lagos in southern Portugal. I was a brand new diver so was not able to appreciate the full circumstances of the dives. All I remember is 13deg C water and 1 meter vis. A lot of surge and very little life. 100 dives on and it still rates as one of the worst in my...

    Best rescue is no rescue

Sounds like a scary dive, he's very lucky you were around and able to help... Can I ask what the big attraction to this type of site is? Does knowing the site is 400 feet deep make it somehow more exciting to dive? Is there life there that can't be found elsewhere?? I'm trying to understand why...

    Mares first stage 'whistling'

I had a set of mares Abyss 42 serviced and the first stage now 'whistles' when breathing from the regs. It only happens sometimes, and I can't hear it underwater. If you take a slight, gentle breath it doesn't do it, but if you take a steady, deeper breath it will. The reg still seems to...

    Just began OW with PADI

As others have already said, I wish my instructor had spent more time on proper weighting and buoyancy. I also wish a lot more time had been spent on CESA's. Things like mask clearing are important to be comfortable with, but are easily practised by yourself at the safety stop of every dive...
