I would recommend having a field dressing bandage as well. They are easy to use and perfect for any type of cut or wound where there is significant blood loss.
+1 on the EMT shears too.

I think you might struggle to find dive ops around Mackay. There have been a few threads in the Australia forum about this and I think it's been a no-go.
From memory its the Yongala or GBR.
Good luck :)
Our last trip was to Fiji and was researched for about three days then booked two days before we flew out. We had had some bad luck and decided we needed a holiday. Most International trips would be researched for a couple of weeks then booked about a month or so in advance.
Leaving at 7.30 should give you plenty of time (more than enough really) best to ask the hotel staff when you get there. I don't know how much time you will have but Byron is a great place to pick up a few surfing lessons too.
Dive sites are picked by condition, but it is typical to dive the...
From the forum list, scroll down to "regional forums" then "Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands" then "Australia"
Or try this. Australia
Trust me, once you familiarise yourself with this site you will probably loose a few days just reading the huge amount of information on here!
Hi Milkcloud, It sounds like you have already found a great suit, it basically comes down to fit and thickness. Most around here use 5mm, although people who really feel the cold can opt for thicker. I prefer a 5mm and then layer a hooded vest in the winter.
Best thing to do is to visit a bunch...
So the correct course of action if you experience one of these spasms is to remain calm, avoid the temptation to try and forcefully inhale, secure your reg and begin a slow and controlled ascent?
If it is seawater or vomit that has caused it, can any harm be done by swallowing? It would make...
I have been fortunate enough to encounter mantas twice at cook island. Once we were circled for about 10 mins. Turtles are a fairly common sight, buy I've never seen a leopard shark there. (I've only dived there about 10 times)
Byron will almost certainly have turtles and leopard sharks, and I...
if this is the case, I would suggest that the dive op has much bigger problems than trying to protect it's dive site locations!

The water taxi won't pick up from surfers paradise, and it will be about an hour or so drive. If your staying in surfers paradise I personally would dive at cook island.
http://www.coolydive.com.au/ leave from tweed heads which is very close to the gold coast. I think the diving is pretty good...
I apologize, upset was a poor choice of words.
I know, I attributed that to another poster, but again, my post was written quickly and poorly worded.
That is exactly what I hope for, tipping is obviously a tricky subject and for those of us who the locals can rightly expect to be somewhat...
Straddie is a nice spot with some swimming beaches and Manta dive is a pretty good outfit. Just catch the water taxi and they will pick you up from the jetty. It's a long day if you don't plan on staying there overnight.
Go Dive run a good outfit too, they leave from the harbour in Brisbane...
The buckles in the link are almost identical to those fitted to a high access safety harness I use. While not being true quick release the do come apart without too much hassle. No good for a weight belt but they'd work well for a shoulder strap.

One of the users here on scubaboard named Quero runs a dive shop on Phuket. If she can't help you directly she may be able to recommend someone.
I would also recommend you read Jim Lapentas thread titled 'how to choose a scuba instructor' I think it is a sticky in the new divers forum.
Think...
In Australia I have never seen anyone tip the boat crew. It just doesn't happen. I always make a point of saying thank you to the crew, and if they have been especially helpful I will let them know it is appreciated.
I have never really understood the culture of tipping. Why should boat crew...
I recently had surgery on my left should and am planning my eventual return to diving. I've lost a fair bit of mobility and have trouble specifically with lifting my arm over my head.
For this reason I'm looking for opinions on swapping my inflator hose to the right hand side. I use a DSS wing...
The coroner mentioned she had two buoyancy devices (I assume bcd and drysuit) but that neither were inflated. How can this be the case? Surely she had attained positive buoyancy while at the surface?
The fact that she sank would indicate she was negative at the surface in very rough conditions...
