Brisbane divers - fancy a GC seaway excursion?

Sounds like a great idea. I haven't dived the seaway but have been told a bit of local knowledge of the tides is important. Apparently it is really quite good. Another option might be cook island depending on what others think? I know my regular buddy would probably be keen, and I might be...

    Aussie diving - April 2012

I have only seen one Guitarfish, which I think is the same as a shovel nosed ray? Are those markings unique to the Eastern fiddler ray? (I did a brief search and that seems to be what the internet thinks)

That ray is incredible. Those markings are awesome.

    Adelaide Diving?

We're heading to Adelaide soon to visit some friends and I'm thinking about getting a dive in. Can anyone offer info on shore/jetty dives? Apparently we are staying somewhere near the airport? I won't have a lot of time so somewhere close and easy to get to would be ideal... Anyone know the...

    Aussie diving - April 2012

My wife and I just got back from Heron Island a couple of days ago. It was overall a great trip, but it did have some surprises... The diving was good, but I was shocked at the state of the coral. A lot of it seemed bleached or dead and covered in silt. I only did three dives there so certainly...

    Home made P weight?

Thanks for the replies, Richard thanks for the very detailed post and photos. Did pouring the lead directly onto the plate damage it's finish in any way? I like the idea of setting the sex bolts into the casting.

Nothing quite compares to the feeling of snapping that last exhaust stud off.. then snapping the easy out two hours later:depressed:

    Diving in June / July

My wife and I dived off Phuket in May 2009. Also did PhiPhi and a couple off Railay. Phuket was best. Nice easy reef diving, PhiPhi was a terrible dive when we were there, although I know it is highly regarded by others. Railay was very cheap and quite pleasant, although not really amazing...

    Boat diving.

I would definitely think about how you would get an unconscious diver back into any boat you are diving from. I think it is easy enough to do it into a RIB but a boat like the one pictured in the OP may take some practice. It's always a good idea to have a plan.

    Aussie diving - April 2012

I don't know how many people are involved in the museum but my wife's uncle also volunteers there. Ken does tours of the HMAS Onslow. Which coincidentally is named after the town my grandmother was born in. Our trip to Cook Island was great. My buddy and I jumped in first and tried to head away...

    The perfect DSMB?

Thanks Jim, that sounds good. I look forward to hearing how wide it is. Can you also let me know if it has a stainless ring at the bottom? or is it just secured with a plastic buckle and strap? Thanks again.

    Home made P weight?

Does anyone have any experience casting their own P weight? I have a DSS SS back plate with no STA and currently dive with about 2 or 3lb on a belt. I'm thinking of casting a small P weight to fit into the bottom of the channel in the plate. What is the normal way of attaching the weight to the...

    The perfect DSMB?

Thanks for that, I have looked at the DSS one but it seems even smaller than the Halcyon. Although having more of the buoyancy at the bottom makes sense. How does it go being seen from the boat? Have you had any feedback from your surface support? Also, is it easy to fill with one breath...

    The perfect DSMB?

I have looked for a while but have not been able to find exactly what I want, so hopefully someone here can help. Is there a DSMB on the market that is about 4.5' long, approx 5" wide, is a closed circuit with a OPV and has a good quality oral inflate mechanism? I like the 3' Halcyon but it...

Orange saliva after coming up from dive

I have had orange mucus/snot before. It happened when I had been body surfing in rough conditions, and got seawater forced into my sinus. It was due to me rupturing some small blood vessels in my sinus. When the blood, sea water and mucus mixed it came out a bright (and concerning) orange. I...

    Aussie diving - April 2012

Fantastic shots again Alcina, the bait ball sounds great. One of the best dives we ever did was spent inside a huge one at Byron Bay. Cook Island turned out to be a great dive. 10m vis and about 24deg. Not too much big life but there was lots to look at. The highlight for me was a tiny yellow...

Man killed by shark in SW (of Western Australia AU)

What a terrible thing to have happened. I believe this is the fourth shark attack fatality in about seven months over there. At least the state government seems to have avoided the calls for hunting/culling of these animals. Condolences to this divers family and friends. I haven't been able...

Moderation: Too much or too little?

I couldn't agree with you more Bob. I really feel the repetitive nature of some of the 'poor me' posts on this board have begun to rival those in the deep air threads. Although it may not be the typical style, I think the post calling for Lynnes' resignation should be considered as trolling...
