    Pony bottles VS stage bottles

Gosh darnit, Rick. You've dragged me back in. I agree with everything you say. Just give me this. If you DON'T use the stage, would it then be redundant? Now I'm done. I've been drafting the same lease all morning... Out, JB

    Pony bottles VS stage bottles

Soggy, Good site. I guess I never thought of "stage" as nondescript. It's just general because its uses very, like "vehicle." It's the same with "pony bottle." It's a bottle that can be mounted all over the place for use only as a bailout but only because it's too small to do anything...

    Great Lakes Shore Dives

Mlody11, Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm definitely not going to be diving until it's warmer. I'm just talking about it because the monkey on my back is going nuts. I can't wait to be diving again. Maybe I'll see you down there! Thanks, JB

    Pony bottles VS stage bottles

Being an instructor, I respect your training and education level enough to do a little research and see if I’m off base as is the case from time to time. I would hate to think that I was perpetuating falsehood. Stage bottle: http://wrolf.net/scuba_slang.html “A separate gas supply which...

    Ocean Men: Extreme Dive

I’m totally stoked about the Cameron movie. I really enjoyed the book The Dive (despite Ferreras’ glaring literary problems). I don’t know if Pippin will be playing himself but in the book there are pictures of Cameron using his “Titanic subs” to document the...

    Pony bottles VS stage bottles

If, and only if, you use the stage bottle for extending bottom time it offers no redundancy. That's your choice. Not a mandatory or "correct" configuration (nor is mine for that matter). Per the configuration I described above, a large gas reserve is, by definition, redundant. JB

    Chicago - Westside

Man, oh man. Out of the woodwork they come... Jepuskar, if you're going to subject me to more of last year's celebration perhaps you can also help me with the diving question. I'll broaden it. I'm just looking for some cheap or free local diving that doesn't involve collecting golf...

    Ocean Men: Extreme Dive

There is an IMAX called Ocean Men: Extreme Dive. It's a documentary about Ferreras and Pelizzari trying to get to 531 feet (one breath) in "No Limits" freediving. It's only been showing in Canada. I've been trying to get a copy of this movie forever. Even tried to find someplace showing it in...

    Pony bottles VS stage bottles

The difference between pony bottles and stage bottles is really one of size. If you want a completely independent air source (not a bad impulse in certain situations) may as well take one that can actually get you out of trouble. When I'm going deep and cold I take a 40 cuft side mounted...

    Great Lakes Shore Dives

Great news. Is there any check in or procedure for shore diving at Evanston or North Shore? Or is it truly a "walk in" situation? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JB

    Best Diving Movies

The Big Blue is easily the best and most thoughtful of all time. Into the Blue, crap. But Alba's rear end is a plot line of it's own. Here's one that's killing me: There is an IMAX called Ocean Men: Extreme Dive. It's a documentary about Ferreras and Pelizzari trying to get to 531 feet...

    Frustration...

Tell them the long hose is not for you but for them. And should they ever request it, consider giving them a couple of seconds to think about the error of their ways. Also, this could just be a karma thing. You now belong to a very cantankerous and outspoken crowd. JB

    Diving Knife Test

Here's the test: If you lose the knife will you be upset? If the answer is no, then it's a knife worth considering for diving. But my words are wasted. I didn't learn the lesson until I lost my precious SOG dive knife (that the SEALs use!). Since that time I've not lost any valuable...

    Chicago - Westside

I love you Sox fans. All of a sudden you have mouths. You have the same team only better. Much better, in my estimation. Sooooo, you should will 100 games and the WS, right? No. The Indians are nasty, nasty this year. I hope you guys do well though. But I can't help but think that if...

Pentagon using brain implants on sharks

Why not? Provided they aren't torturing the sharks (and the article gave no indication that this is the case) how is this different that using a dog to sniff out a bomb in an airport? We manipulate the dog's sense of smell in such a way as to train it to focus on particular odors and respond to...

    New Reg Recommendation?

I can't speak well enough of the Titan LX (Supreme). I imagine that someday I will upgrade to the Legend LX Supreme but for now I'm set. Now that I know how a reg is supposed to perform in very deep cold water I don't like thinking about all the garbage I kept myself alive with down there...

    Methods for Binding Nylon Webbing

Neat Drivsea, now that's interesting. Would you mind going into a little more detail on how it's done. I'm assuming this is all SS and attached with the use of some kind of gun. I have admitt I've never riveted anything, let alone with washers. Come to think of it, I think I've seen...

    DIR-Why Black?

What a self-explanatory question... Why did Patton wear fatigues to bed? Why don't you wear hot pink underwear to work? What color is the presidential motorcade? Why was Johnny Cash the Man in Black? JB

    Another damn wing question...

The Dive Rite Trek wing (40#) is a nice middle ground. Great with a single but can handle up to two 80s. And without a drysuit the lift is more than adequate. JB
