Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't think I'm too worried about abut the reg freezing up as in literal ice forming as I've still yet to try a drysuit. I like the idea of both the Oceanic Delta and the metal ones. But do the metal ones have issues with rust? I'm not sure of what kind of...

Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Is there a major difference metal or plastic housing for the second stage? (besides metal looking snazzier)

Any other teenage divers out there?!

Almost 19, is that still considered to be a teenager? :) I wish I could have been certified at 14! Lucky you! PS - Welcome to the board!

Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

I'm looking to buy my first reg and really have no idea about which brand is best for which type of diving or what features make them specialized for cooler waters. The most important thing I'm concerned about is ease of breathing (Damn rental regs, don't trust 'em none). I also want one that...

    Glow

That wouldn't look nearly as "cool"! I wonder if, for even less air, you could get an internal battery pack powering custom neon lights that spell out your name? When everyone owns one of these, you don't want them to get mixed up. It'd be awesome to see it on someone else though... :cool2:

Diving Solo (Sort of) in Queensland?

I am planning to visit Queensland (specifically Cairns) next July/August with my family of stubborn non-divers. I was wondering if there were any dive operators I could dive through, hopefully with other newbies/foreigners, and if so, any recommendations for a certain place? Maybe even one that...

How long after having a child was it before you dived again?

:rofl3: Sounds like a random cousin of James Bond!

How long after having a child was it before you dived again?

Congrats! Found some water-themed names on ye olde Google: Marina Maris - "of the sea" Moana - "wide expanse of water" Calder - "violent water" Leith - "flowing water" Bermuda Brook/Brooke Kai/Kaia - "sea" Naida - "river nymph" Also saw the name Shark, maybe for an awesome middle name?

Sea Quest QD with i3 BC Question

I find the lever much easier to use with 5mm gloves than the standard button. Very easy to add or dump small amounts of air. I agree, though, MAKE SURE your buddy knows where the lever/dumps/weights are. Us newbies seem to love this BC though so you may get a buddy who also has one :)

Help keep a newbie from getting reamed!

Also watch out for splits vs. paddles and Creation vs. Evolution (Unless of course you visit SB roughly 20 times a day to stay on top of the argument, which is perfectly healthy, right?) :14: EDIT - Aw, beat me to the fins, Almitywife

    Volunteer work

Do you mean strictly diving-oriented volunteer work or conservation in general? Personally I've worked in Guatemala through this site and found the program very conservation oriented. They offer programs in many different areas and both Volunteer Adventures and the program in Guatemala did a...

    Newly certified Advanced OW diver

Congrats on the AOW and welcome to SB! And theres absolutely nothing wrong with just watching the fish; come to California and watch the garibaldis try to intimidate you away from their precious rock kingdoms. :14:

Should I take an AOW course while on a liveaboard?

Just finished my AOW on a liveaboard, although it was in the markedly less exotic Channel Islands, which is only a 6 hour drive for me, as opposed to going to a different country. If it was somewhere farther away and therefore more expensive, I'm not sure I would want to allow losing any dives...

    Favorite Northern CA dive shop

Pinnacles is my local place, only about ten minutes away. Not very big, but like Matt said, very nice people. Only other place I've been to so far is Aquarius in Monterey, which seemed like a great place too.

    Bloody Nose At Depth?

Is it just a little blood in the mask when you surface or a noticeable flow while diving?
