    Why a snorkel?

Because sometimes you have to make a half-mile kelp crawl because your tank has 300psi... That was a fun day.

    What brand to buy?

I'm in the process of reg shopping and I feel like its come down to either the Scubapro MK25/S600 and the Aqualung Legend. But I'm sure either will be exponentially better than rentals. :D

Keeping in mind that this is BASIC scuba...

I completely agree with "being able to breathe underwater" being the only necessary reason to dive, its amazing to throw hundreds of millions of years of evolution right back in Earth's face. Also, as a new diver that has only dove local (California) I would love to try all types of diving...

    Moving to Santa Cruz

Sorry I should have said for numerical names, as in 101, and not THE 101. I can safely say I do not use 'sick' in my slanguage :cool2:

Did you know, these people are divers?

I can't understand the attractiveness of her, I guess because I'm a woman. The girls an idiot and brings nothing to the show except spray-painting.

    Moving to Santa Cruz

I admit that I say 'hella.' I'm not proud of it. You SoCal folk really put a 'the' in front of major freeway names? As far as wetsuits needed here go, THICK. 7mm farmer john/jane and jacket, or 7mm full with a 7mm jacket/vest.

    Moving to Santa Cruz

Will you be in the San Francisco Bay area or Santa Cruz (which is technically Monterey Bay)? There are a bunch of awesome (albeit cold for wetsuits) sites in the Monterey Bay. As for the San Francisco Bay, I can't really say though I am sure there must be some. I go to school in Santa Cruz but...

Did you know, these people are divers?

Thats awesome! Its basically my life's goal to somehow get to buddy up with Jamie Hyneman :dork2:

Good job price tetris-ing! (Is that a phrase...?)

Cartilage Ear Piercing and a 7mm Hood

Yeah I'll see what I can do about getting it pierced with a sleeper, I hate posts in general. If you can rotate it through the piercing though, wouldn't you have to stretch it to a higher gauge?

Cartilage Ear Piercing and a 7mm Hood

I was planning on getting a sleeper after it had healed; a friend tells me that sleepers are more prone to infection when the piecing is new as oppose to studs. I will ask person who does it, and if a stud is the noticeably safer option then I guess I'll just suck it up and deal with it until I...

    Are you a vegetarian?

I eat meat, and I'd eat basically anything short of cannibalism (or veal, but thats more of an animal rights thing, and I wouldn't eat my own dog or snakes :cool2:) I don't buy the "only animals feel pain!" stuff either, that mentality is kingdom-ist! Oh, funny story about the veggies; I...

Cartilage Ear Piercing and a 7mm Hood

Thanks for the replies guys. I plan on having it be just a small ring when its healed, its more the post that I assume it would be pierced with that it seems like there would be a possibility of it ripping out. The zippered hood sounds great, but does the zipper ruin the seal?

    Painting on Neoprene

I've seen this at my LDS. I've never used it, but it claims to be for most types of scuba gear, and seems like it would flex, so hopefully it will work on wetsuits :D

Cartilage Ear Piercing and a 7mm Hood

Hello all, I was wondering if getting a cartilage piercing on the upper rim of my ear would be a wise idea for a thick wetsuit user, and if so, how long should I let it heal before I get back in the ocean? From what I understand such a piercing would take 6-8 weeks for standard (?) healing, and...

    What would you buy?

I got a BC first in the interest of "saving" money; I tried to get one of the more expensive things to rent because I only had enough money for one major piece of gear. Turns out the regulator (or was it the computer...) was more expensive to rent but the BC is something that you won't need the...

Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

Yeah the Oceanic seems to be the soundest choice, I just wish it had some metal on it for durability (and snazziness) which is why I still want to open to the more metallic models. Has anyone had experience with Hollis?

Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

I should had guessed a mini fight would break out eventually :cool2: Currently I feel torn between the Sherwood SR1, Scubapro G250V, and the Oceanic Delta 4, but I'm not committed to anything. I need to see what brands my hometown and collegetown LDSs will service...

Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

Thanks so much for all the replies. Have any of you guys tried a Sherwood? I though I read somewhere that they were designed for cooler water, but I may be wrong. Plus its ridiculously on sale at leisurepro (which is also a bit suspicious...) And brace yourselves for a noob question, but what...
