The sole benefit of that card is in the amusement of others.
If you do get that card be sure to loudly proclaim multiple times on every dive boat and in every dive shop that you are a 'PADI Master Scuba Diver': usually to folks who have many, many hundreds, if not thousands, of dives.
You...
Thanks for all the ideas folks -
I have tried stickers and decals, but they tend to wear out over time. I also have issues getting some tougher versions to stick, and do wonder about salt build up. I do have some named SMBs and stage MODs marked by stickers by DiveSigns. @Scared Silly I do...
Folks -
Every week when I pick up my tanks from the LDS I gaze over a room full of white tanks: all with, at the very best, maybe a faded paint marker initial to identify them.
Surely there's a better way to make my tanks stand out from the crowd?
Maybe I could do something that gives the...
As you are starting out in tec diving be prepared to end up with multiple regulators for singles, doubles, stages, etc.
With this in mind you should consider:
1. First stages with a good hose layout for doubles (i.e. a 5th LP port on the bottom of the 1st stage)
2. Easy to service (preferably...
Your rings look normal from the photo: are you sure you are using the thinner larger ring on the left to secure the cuff (arrow below), and not the fatter central one?
I pulled out my cuff ring - there are two black o rings: a fatter 4.5 mm ring to hold the Si/latex seal (your middle ring...
Unfortunately I think the only 'manual' is the small pamphlet that comes with the rings, and is somewhat confusing in its labelling. Even the store doesn't list the specifications.
I measured my o-rings: the black ring you need that locks the assembly in place is 3.50 mm thick, while the ones...
I'm considering getting a few of these cheap video lights to use as remote light sources to photograph some deep, dark wreaks in poor vis waters (i.e. onboard flash just lights up the near-camera backscatter).
I haven't read every single post in this thread, but is there any consensus on which...
Is that video with the drysuit sleeve inside out? Something doesn't look right - you may have the wrist seal rings back the front. The black o ring is held in place in a groove almost as deep as the o ring: I cant get it to pop out.
The pic below shows the wrist seal ring next to the cuff, in...
I’m a big fan of a variable accent rate.
Rather than watch computer ascent warnings, which always seem to be too sensitive/noisy, I follow a simple ‘half depth’ formula:
I aim to be at half my current depth in 1-2 minutes time.
i.e. if I am at 40 m at 20 minutes into the dive, then aim to be...
Thanks for posting that Link Lowwall -
I placed an order with Dive Again Scuba on News Years Eve and promptly received the replacement cover in Australia a week or so later. Took only a few minutes to replace.
Turned out to be cheaper than using a commercial 3D printing shop here, and faster...
What a great read! The sections on human testing are fascinating: I'm not sure that they would be allowed to repeat many of those experiments nowadays...
Thanks for posting this - should be required reading for anyone interested in how the current recommendations were derived.
Cheers
Rohan.
Just curious - why do you need to see your tank pressure on the same screen as depth and bearing?
I might check my SPG 2 or 3 times a dive, and only to confirm what my guess is, while I use bearing and depth frequently to navigate in local low vis conditions.
Do you often find a need to...
What would this bottle be used for? I am genuinely curious what possible event would require a 'safety stop bottle' with another gas mix.
Safety stops mean you are already clear to head to the surface. It doesn't matter what gas you breathe at your safety stop - its not going to change the...
The simple answer to your question of why you were penalized relative to your friends: they were probably diving computers with algorithms developed by a scientist, while you were diving a computer with an algorithm that has been developed by a legal department.
If they had Garmins or...
What was your maximum and average depth, your bottom time and your total time for both dives?
A screenshot of your dive profile (both dives) would be helpful.
The OP posted in 2023, but on todays posts on the 300 bar 7's: twin 7l 300 bar are by far my favorite tanks.
300 bar (4350 psi) tanks are very negatively buoyant, and in a drysuit with double 7L 300's and a steel plate I don't need a weight belt.
On surface the twin 7's weigh as much as a...
Split fins..
Stab jackets..
Masks on forehead..
To this list of red flags when sizing up another diver we can now add the shameful:
Round dive computer..
For the OP's question - I went with an OSTC computer as they have a large text option on a bright and large display on par with shearwaters...
Well - it looks like you've answered your own question.
Remove the weight pockets and go with a weight belt, and/or add some weight pouches to your tank cam bands to help trim. Maybe replace the plastic cam bands with steel ones for some more weight.
Cheers
Rohan.
