    Independent Doubles vs. Isolated Doubles

well, to me travelling to "wherever" by plane is going to mean different gear than travelling by car or truck etc . This difference is always at least tanks ..

A leaking SPG - no back up. Now what?

I also am at the point where I have a spare for everything...now I don't have to check my "list" as I simply load it all!!!

    Independent Doubles vs. Isolated Doubles

When I say travel with I refer to driving trips where the tanks and gear are in the truck. I don't like taking valves on and off to accomodate a dive. Aren't tanks supposed to be vis'd after/between changing a valve?

    Aeris Atmos LX

I have an Atmos XT (check out the independent reviews!) , I'm not sure if Aeris still makes these or if the LX replaced the XT.... anyway, The XT is also a hybrid and is my absolute favorite bc when not diving a bp/wing. I have met several other divers that also rave about their XT's . The...

    Independent Doubles vs. Isolated Doubles

Yes, ...H valves , one 1st stage per post and shutting off one side per tank....and isolated doubles- Voila!. It does sound a bit ...ah, awkward ... and yet I happen to have two LP85's with H valves that I like to use when doubles are , for whatever reason , not wanted. There have been times...

    Independent Doubles vs. Isolated Doubles

Ever seen tanks with either H or Y valves doubled up in this manner?

    Do you S-drill

I cavern and cave dive weekly and have never seen complete s drills performed prior to a dive - unless its a class...

    Long hose setup question

Breathing the 7' hose is not "mandatory" in wreck or cave diving....however, is has become most in vogue and considered more DIR (especially in cave). Bungeeing it to a tank, however,is acceptable and prefered by many. Mostly, you'll have thought this through, taken proper training, listen to...

    Going Doubles

I think many divers move to doubles not out of need but rather out of fashion. And I think lots of doubles divers would rather not dive than be seen diving singles. However, once you feel you have sufficient reasons to move to doubles my advise would be to rent prior to investing. See what you...

    Independent Doubles vs. Isolated Doubles

Why is a LP failure more devastating than a HP failure...? Also, seems to me that the worst failure would be a neck O ring or a burst disk (both of course are HP)...neither of which I can shut down with a post valve - so back to one of the benefits of independant doubles.

    Independent Doubles vs. Isolated Doubles

How much gas is lost while shutting down a post valve with manifolded doubles???-assuming a HP failure??? .....just wondering...........

    1.4 ....1.6...or ?????

"dropping down to 1.6 for a few seconds is not a big deal"...??? The way I understand oxygen toxicity is that it does not always give us signs or symptoms....and it takes less than a few seconds to suffer a convulsion.

    Newbie gear questions

I believe that needing a computer should be based upon your need ...(multi-level diving or not) ... not based upon fashion. Single level dives are easily and safely done by the tables - and kinda fun. However, multi level diving - which is in reality most of our dives- will demand a computer...

    1.4 ....1.6...or ?????

I recently did two dives with two dive buddies. Both dives were to 130 ft. I was diving air so I was not concerned with oxygen toxicity...however the other divers were diving eanx32. I mentioned to them at the start of the first dive that I thought they were pushing the depth limits for eanx32...

    Integrated weight vs. non-integrated

I've been diving for over 40 years so I grew up using a weight belt . I still like it . I find it irritating to find so many divers ( maybe especially instructors) that are very narrow minded on this and many other diving subjects. Its as if they believe that all weight belts should have been...

    Buddy ditches the dive plan

The bottom line is that you had better be prepared for the possibility that you may have to do a solo dive!

Have you ever surfaced after a dive to find you are in the middle of a violent lightning storm?

    Buddy ditches the dive plan

I dive Florida caves ..where the RULE is 1/3 in 1/3 out 1/3 in reserve in regards to air consumption. I actually had a "dive buddy" continue further into the cave even after I hit my turn around 1/3 and had turned the dive and got an acknowledgement ...but he indicated he would continue a bit...

    Why can't I use a cheap $20 watch?

Do a quick search on Sheck Exley ...(if by chance you are unfamiliar with who he is) ...and you will find that he always added an inexpensive watch (or two) to his dive gear. His personal brand of choice was Casio - sometimes a DW6300. I usually add an Armitron WR330 $20.00 at Target and is...
