Just tried 3 CCRs (Fathom, rEvo, Choptima)

Great write up! It was nice to get to meet you at the demo! I’m glad you’ve been able to try multiple units so quickly, it’ll certainly make comparisons much easier.

    FATHOM Dive Systems Q&A

I try to keep a low profile, so I’m glad to see that it’s been working 🤣 I’ve been diving for 7 years now, worked as a “jack of all trades” in the industry for 5. I finally pulled the trigger on a used FATHOM 2 years ago, and have been working for Charlie for almost a year. To keep a long story...

    FATHOM Dive Systems Q&A

Our HUD is now using the same waterblocked cable used on hardwired Shearwaters, fisher cables, and a few other applications. If your Petrel 3 is on an AK cable (4 pin wet-mateable) the wire is a little more flexible. We originally were using a more flexible wire but switched to "Shearwater...

    FATHOM Dive Systems Q&A

Hi everyone, I wanted to open up this forum to act as a Q&A for Charlie Roberson and I (Matt Key) for questions involving our rebreathers. We want to make ourselves available within the ScubaBoard Community, and answering any questions you may have involving our design, philosophy, or anything...

Fathom Gemini - Fathoms Sidemount CCR

Considering I work at Fathom and build these units, Yeah I'm quite sure :)

Fathom Gemini - Fathoms Sidemount CCR

It’s certainly quite close. Includes a IQ Sub/golem DSV, cells, HUD, QC6’s, oxygen reg, dual mav, and petrel 3 on a 4pin. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As for size, the cans are 1/8th of an inch bigger circumference than the insulated sidewinder canisters. That isn’t including the screw down “ring” to hold the...

Prevalence of Different mixes in side-mounted bailout bottles

Post was edited to reflect CCR cave diving. I get carrying all bottles in OW, and I still just dive them as stages. 2 on the left chest, everything else on a leash, or more likely a tech rigged fathom :)

Prevalence of Different mixes in side-mounted bailout bottles

I’m mainly referring to cave and deep cave, it’s where I’ve seen it occur. Seems to all be in an effort to avoid more stages, inflation bottles, and the cost of trimix

Prevalence of Different mixes in side-mounted bailout bottles

Paging @DiveTalkGus as he is 1 of 2 I’ve publicly seen talk about it. The other died in a cave diving accident, though unrelated to bailout choice.

Prevalence of Different mixes in side-mounted bailout bottles

This tends to be popping up within the cave community. Typically as cave divers in Florida bailout is sidemounted with a matching mix, necklace on the left post, and longhose on the right post. All other gasses are carried in stage bottles that are dropped along the cave, and if doing mix dives...

Blue Steel vs XS Scuba Pro Valves

This is indeed the location, forgot about that additional annoyance.

Blue Steel vs XS Scuba Pro Valves

Thermo valves are the gold standard. While XS scuba valves appear identical, they use a static o-ring on the bonnet nut vs the copper crush gasket in the thermos. I prefer the crush washer personally over an o-ring, but your mileage may vary.

That question again - primary light recommendations

And I kept thinking about how nice your Focus 2 looked 🤣 my first lights were 21w hid’s (LM, salvo, and halcyon). I did one dive borrowing a focus 1.0 and was sold. Bought one the moment I could afford it. Just upgraded to a Focus 2.0 with a 20ah FATHOM battery pack and couldn’t be happier :)

    Flooded Light, new light recommendations?

My belief is it depends on how mission critical heat is for the Dive. If you’re doing stuff where you truly need heat, not just using it as a luxury, Having separate packs with an E/O light head certainly provides the most flexibility. I’m using a Fathom heat controller that allows me to switch...

    Looking to Buy a Rebreather

Hate to bring up a dead thread, but your claim that cell splitters are unreliable is certainly an overstatement. And I’m curious what experience led you to make such a bold claim. Properly designed and protected splitter boards are incredibly reliable, there is hardly anything to fail. I would...
