WHY do most manufacturers' Women's Talls stop at a 10?

Blue Sparkle, I'm right there with you. And yes, my "capri length" suit is not supposed to be that way, but it doesn't much matter in a 3mm. It does in a 5mm. I want my legs covered. At my height, a size 10 is on the thin side. I was a little too thin at that size to be honest. It seems...

    Is Little Cayman worth it?

I'm a solid YES, it is worth it! And when you consider it as a whole, I think it is a good value. I went the first time last summer with a group. I had only been diving in Cancun, Cozumel, NC, Key Largo, and the Turks and Caicos. LC was fabulous. I had an involuntary SI this past winter...

WHY do most manufacturers' Women's Talls stop at a 10?

I'll have to find one to try! Thanks! My legs are disproportionately long (36 inches) so that *might* work. Does anyone know which is the super stretch like fabric for Bare? The umm girls need a bit more than a 12, but a super stretch fabric usually gives enough to be comfortable and...

    Becoming a Dive Doctor

Glad that some of you noted the subspecialty choices. Can't imagine that surgery and dive medicine would be a complimentary pair of paths? To my knowledge, all of the hyperbaric docs at Duke, or at least most of them, are trained in Anethesiology and hyperbaric medicine. They do work with...

    Shore Dive Morehead City

It will be more like wading with a strong pull towards the ocean otherwise.

WHY do most manufacturers' Women's Talls stop at a 10?

This is where I beg to differ. I think manufacturers are missing the boat so to speak and I'd like to see the market research to support their sizing decisions. Most women my size are tall. I look them in the eye all day long. We are the same size within a narrow range. It makes no sense...

WHY do most manufacturers' Women's Talls stop at a 10?

Oh, my 3mm is not a Capri suit. It is a Henderson Hyperstretch 12 regular. So on ME it is a Capri suit.

WHY do most manufacturers' Women's Talls stop at a 10?

It's making me nuts! It would seem that the taller a woman is, the more likely she is to wear a larger size. I was looking in one manufacturer's catalog today. The 10Tall will fit a woman 5'9" to 6' tall. The next size up, 12, which is not available in a tall, fits a women 5'6' to 5'9". And...

    Dangerous Shark Interaction

Did I catch a glimpse of a bag of speared fish? If so, then I can assure you that the sharks were serious. Pretty stupid, and deserved imho. The sharks were doing what sharks are supposed to do in the presence of food.

Cardiac ultrasound for everyone considering diving?

Bill, you can't really see what needs to be seen with a simple echo. Unless you have a big PFO. You have to do a bubble test, color test, something to look at flow between the chambers. Doesn't sound like the OP has any history that would warrant this expensive test. Kind of freaky to...

    A "weighty" issue.

Well, they are most definitely not filled with air and would hurt like a bear if an airbag slammed into them.

Cardiac ultrasound for everyone considering diving?

So in people with unexplained DCS hits, ASDs/PFOs are seen in greater frequency than in those without. But lots of people with ASDs/PFOs don't have DCS hits. So therefore, no one recommends routine screening for ASD. There you have it. Unless you have history to support this screening...

    A "weighty" issue.

For what it is worth, don't assume that her PFDs are responsible for her being in or out of trim to begin with. Remember, she is not diving on her back. My guess is that she is a bit head up in the water because she is a new diver and new divers are almost always head up even if they lack...

Can you still buy Cipro in Coz w/o seeing a dr there?

This is one of my pet peeves. When you compare the rate of antibiotic resistance in the US to the rate of antibiotic resistance in Scandinavia, where their use is strictly controlled, you may gain appreciation for the scope of the problem. Our pattern of overuse has rendered many of them...

    Need help with sea sickness

Well that was a good initiation. Much more than that and you wouldn't have gone out. I dive mainly out of Morehead and Wilmington, and in Morehead, the rides out are 2 hours plus. You'll be fine, just need to sort out how you want to prepare to not be sick next time.

    Hello North Carolina

Hi Andy, and welcome to the NC Diving community. Who was your instructor? My buddy teaches at Gypsy. I guess I can say that I am not a wreck enthusiast either, but they often serve as habitats for marine life which is really amazing. On my last NC dive, we went out to the Proteus. We...

Snorkel: is cheap OK? ...in the way.. keep in pocket? Gearkeeper?

I don't use one. It is going to do nothing but get in the way or give me a belly full of saltwater when I dive at home. The wave height is such that it isn't going to help me on a surface swim. I keep one in my dive bag when I am in calmer seas in the event that something cool is...

    Need help with sea sickness

Oh and by the way, if you find yourself miserably seasick but otherwise OK, TRY to get in the water and dive! You will feel much better in the water than you will on the deck of a rocking boat while everyone else is diving. Plus, we will give you grief if you don't man up after yakking. But...
