    Gloves?

This is the correct answer. Certainly if the stings you had were severe/life threatening, your doctor should be able to support a medical waiver. I can assure you that they are quite strict about the no glove policy in the Cayman Islands and many dive staff are unaware that there is even the...

We did it - OW certified!

Seriously though, when and if you are interested, you must at least TRY offshore NC diving. It is, on a good day, my favorite of all. There are not too many women out on the boats here, I guess deeper, sharkier dives with a measure of current on occasion aren't every girl's cup of tea. :D...

We did it - OW certified!

Waves and current are a blast! Come diving with us offshore sometime, it will be fun, I promise! I am happy to hear that you did your checkout dives somewhere that wasn't Fantasy Lake. Congrats!

    Dive Accident on Belize Aggressor

Glad you got the care you needed and that you are recovering. Thanks for sharing your experience, these reports can only serve to help someone else stay safe. It sounds to me that all appropriate rescue procedures were followed by the crew of the boat. Removing gear in order to keep a victim...

Recurring issue - nausea, headaches & throwing up during dives

Doubt sinus issues are the issue here. I felt the need to comment as self medicating in the context of diving can be dangerous. Stuff we take on land and perceive to be very benign may be different underwater. Real pseudoephedrine is still the same and still OTC is most states, you have...

Recurring issue - nausea, headaches & throwing up during dives

The medication thing is a bit more complicated than just whether or not it "helps". Is the person sick and trying to compensate? Bad idea. Does the drug vasoconstrict and possibly interfere with offgassing? (That's why migraine meds are not recommended when diving or for a period of time...

    Getting to Little Cayman

I base my no fly time on my first flight, period. I knew that commercial planes were pressurized to 8000 feet, and that the Otters were unpressurized, what I wasn't sure of was at what altitude they flew at from GC to LC. I just remember some folks at LCBR saying that they were going on the...

    Nice to meet you!

Welcome from Raleigh. Hopefully you are doing your checkout dives somewhere other than Fantasy Lake :). Brrr. People dive it year round. But. Brrr. I'm a wimp about water temps. After going all over the world to dive, offshore NC diving is still my favorite...on a good and sharky day...

Question about skills that weren't easy to learn

You've already gotten all of the right advice on your question, but if you need someone to meet you and practice skills, let me know. I'm in Raleigh, tons of pools around town we could use. I remember the mask clearing skills tripping me up a bit when I was doing my OW. I can't open my eyes...

Recurring issue - nausea, headaches & throwing up during dives

Don't let the PFO thing scare you Tiny! 30% of people walking around out there have them to some degree. And certainly 30% of divers aren't getting bent. They ARE seen more frequently in divers with unexplained DCS hits. They ARE associated with migraines in SOME people, but lots of other...

Well LCBR did have some cool divers on board that first trip. We even made them honorary gypsies.

Recurring issue - nausea, headaches & throwing up during dives

True. Especially giving the timing and presentation of the headaches. But how do you test this theory out unless the OP has some incidences in other settings? And the triptans used to treat them are in theory a problem when diving due to the fact that they cause vasoconstriction.

    Newbies are worthless!

When I go out to Cali to dive the kelp forests, I will be one of them, it will be a new environment for me. I love diving with divers who are more experienced than me, I learn something new every time. I love newbies. I have accompanied many a new diver on their first NC wreck dives and...

    Getting to Little Cayman

Most definitely possible to fly in and dive the same day. The Twin Otter flights fly at pretty low altitudes, though I am unsure what those altitudes are and don't wish to misinform you. I know some who calculate their no fly time based on their jet flight out of GC. In depth Watersports...

Boy does this ever sound like more fun than my 7 day a week job! I did rescue last summer. But for now, I supposed I should stay where I am :(

I've been to LCBR twice (2010 and 2011) and Pirate's point most recently. I am hard pressed to say which one I like better, as they are both very good, but very different. I'd probably give a slight nod to Pirate's point though I would be happy to return to either of them. Pirate's point...

Recurring issue - nausea, headaches & throwing up during dives

When I was a was a new diver, I would suffer headaches and a bit of queasiness after each dive here at home (on the deeper side of rec limits), though not to the extent that you describe. I would have to sit on deck and not move while sipping some ginger ale or something for a few minutes. I...

    Diving North Carolina

Hi there. I have briefly scanned the thread, so my apologies if I say something that has already been said. Only you know and are responsible for what your level of skill and comfort is likely to be in deeper and sometimes unruly waters, and what preparation you should do. I have taken very...
