How Should A Deco Tank Float ???

Full, the bottle will be slightly nose heavy but not really noticeably. If you are using heavy first stage or a large brass spg it will be too nose heavy. As it gets lighter, it will go bottom up even more. I don't do any kind of wrapping of the bottom clip with just one tank. However, with...

How Should A Deco Tank Float ???

Didn't watch the video, but what is an S80. Is that a steel bottle or one of the rare aluminum 80s that is a true 80. Either way, wrong tank. Stages need to be Luxifer Al80s or Al40s. Nothing else will trim out properly. Other aluminum 80s can be a PITA. Steel stages are just a non starter.

    Why These Reels?

My appologies if I misread but you are the one that said it was a nitpick. Just clarifying it was accurate an accurate statement by rjack.

    Why These Reels?

BZZZT, wrong. He meant dissimiliar. Get a metallurgist type to explain it to you. Look at the neck of an al tank when you take the valve off or the area around the bands. That is dissimiliar corrosion.

    Aul14

The older style cannisters, which most of you guys have never used are much more fragile and easy to break. (I have 2 or 3 old AULs somewhere in the garage that occasionally see use as transport tubes.) However, they have a huge upside in that they don't flex and leak so they work much better...

    Starting from scratch

Pretty sure it is the black seal cement. If you follow the application instructions from Halcyon it will last longer than the useful life of a wetsuit. My only changes is I put the glue on the whole pocket rather than just the perimiter. For drysuits, I prefer stitched and glued.

    Starting from scratch

What is this, the suggest the borderline stroke crap thread. X shorts, raider whatever that is. Come on. For the pockets. Get a proper pocket and glue it to the wetsuit. Here is where, as far as I know, Halcyon really shines with its pockets. No need to get al nickel rockety over an item...

    Very clever marketing :-)

An infidel snuck in while you were out so we stoned them. Oh, and the guard just told the inmates he was going to be gone for a few days so you may want to don some riot gear.

    Very clever marketing :-)

Okay, for the "special" kids in the room that can't read the first sticky. Just a few guidelines... 1) No trolling! This is not the place for agency bashing! This is especially not a place for bashing DIR divers. Refer to Notice: the DIR forum is a No Trolling Zone for any questions about...

    Very clever marketing :-)

I didn't get past the first paragraph because the article is totally inapplicable to DIR diving. We don't use dive computres to determine our ascent profiles. Period. As an aside, you are basically completely clean of residual nitrogen after 6 hours if you are doing "NDL" dives with proper...

    Very clever marketing :-)

Let me second staying away from Weinke's book. It won't teach you much if you don't already understand this stuff well anyway. Buhlman's book, which isn't easy to read even if you can get your hands on a rare English version, is still infinately more comprehensible compared to Weinke's. I...

    Very clever marketing :-)

I can bend a 2G on the first recreational dive if I tried and generally would on the second. They are still too conservative. I can run one or two ML options in deco planner and have far more options than a computer will give me. Have someone teach you how to do multi-level dives and...

    AOW for vacations/resorts?

That is just a minor example of how bad diving is in Oz, particularly in Queensland. Despite being literally surrounded by fantastic diving, Oz is the worst place in the world to go diving. Some of the best parts of the reasonably accessible portions of the great barrier reef were directly 30...

    AOW for vacations/resorts?

Most of the AOW card requirements and other stupidity can be overcome if it is clear you know what you are talking about. Just be nice to the operators and don't act like a tool. I routinely forget to pack any form of card since it isn't necessary for me to have one in most places I dive and...

1st or 2nd Stage Reg Failure on Stage/Deco Bottle

They can handle it. I have brought batches of regs in with HP gauges filled with water (gauges can't handle it). The techs always bitch that the inside of my regs are so wrecked, have no chrome left on them anywhere, etc.

Valve/manifold procedures "in the real world"

You have burst disks on your doubles? Ban the stroke! ;)

Valve/manifold procedures "in the real world"

Bob nailed this, but since I read the thread I have to add another reason why isolate first is stupid. If you are losing so much gas that your spg is going to tell you something meaningful, there is no need to isolate in the first place. An initial diagnosis will tell you which post to close...

    GUE Age Requirements

When I used to actually teach I trained a bunch of kids. Often kids quickly pick up on the in-water skills but are completley reliant on adults for the planning parts of diving. In addiiton, kids are generally less aware buddies. While these common deficenices don't create much significant...

    Light on left thand

If the ceiling is really low, yes you are completely horizontal. Looking ahead isn't real important in these sections anyway. There isn't that great a percentage of cave that is actually like this. In open water, you never really have this issue. Your post above, like many DIR divers...

    Light on left thand

I don't want to bust on people with less than 100 dives with the admirable goal of developing good trim. However, maintaining perfect trim throughout the dive is completely unnecessary. In fact, it tends to make it hard to see what you are looking at. When conditions require it, you should be...
