    Diving Computers Database

Yes there's a diving computer database here on this website, with all the information you could possibly need. It's right here before your very eyes, all you need to do is click the correct links. But it's not in a spreadsheet, it's spread out over thousands of posts.

What it's like to dive for the first time

Fair guess given the vague thread titles, lack of responsiveness and perhaps more important, the word under the Op's username to the left of their posts.

At least some bots start interesting discussions.

    Snap ring vs retractors

Retractors can be mounted directly to the BCD either using a pin that goes through webbing or a removable backplate that traps the strap in between the retractor and the backplate, resulting in it being firmly attached not dangling at all and many retractors including the ones I use have all...

    Snap ring vs retractors

Keeping in mind that retractors can break, and there's an extremely low possibility that somehow the retractor cord will get hopelessly caught up on a rock or piece of wreckage and lead to your untimely demise, they definitely have their place. I keep my backup computer & compass/slate...

Trip Report CAYMAN BRAC BEACH RESORT/REEF DIVERS

^This. It's highly unlikely anyone would notice he was lacking his computer. But if he went up to the DM and stupidly said "I forgot my computer is it ok for me to dive" he deserves to sit out a day or two worth of diving. Or maybe even for the rest of his life. Next time he can take...

How I almost drowned -- twice

I sort of agree. I rarely take a breath from my pony except to check it pre-dive. As I've got that extra gas which is roughly equal to the reserve of an AL80 when starting an ascent following a deep dive, towards the end of most dives when I'm near the exit point, I draw my main tank down...

First Spiegel Grove dives and lessons learned

I'm speaking from the perspective of a recreational diver who doesn't spend more than 3 minutes on the line.

First Spiegel Grove dives and lessons learned

I could say making that sort of trip if you're doing a bunch of dives or other stuff while you're there and making it at least an overnite excursion. But just for a couple of dives maybe 40 minutes each.. no thanks.

How I almost drowned -- twice

Yeah that part lost me as well. It makes no sense whatsoever. If the only purpose of using the pony tank is to extend the dive, then just rent a steel 100 and simplify things.

Unknown Missing diver rescued - Navarre Beach, Florida

The ambulance driver knows where the hospital is and how to get there. The Coast Guard doesn't always find the missing. The ocean is a big place. They're saying in effect, stay out of a gignormous area that is really too big for us to search it ourselves, so we can search it on our own.

Unknown Missing diver rescued - Navarre Beach, Florida

You'd think they'd tell other boaters to stay vigilant and if possible, help search within the designated zone rather than chasing them away.

How I almost drowned -- twice

When you do it that way you've lost redundancy for the rest of the dive as you've drained the pony to the point that there isn't enough gas to get to the surface. I do the same to get more dive time only it's towards the end of the dive when I'm near the exit point.

How I almost drowned -- twice

Smaller dive shops might not carry them for sale or rental but you'll find them at the larger stores such as Divers Direct and other larger retailers. Any redundant air supply aids safety if the diver has the training, skills and experience to properly utilize it. A better question might be if...

How I almost drowned -- twice

Pony bottles are not "unavailable" nor are they never mentioned. Solo divers carry them, it's mandatory and it would be foolish not to have the redundancy when you don't have the gas in your buddy's tank as your backup. At least on deeper dives and those involving an overhead environment. Aside...

Tell me about surf entries and exits

No way. A well fitting mask is designed to match the contours of the face to fit snugly and make a seal, aided by the strap which runs perpendicular to the face of the mask and exerts pressure to pull the mask towards the divers face. Not so when on the forehead which is relatively flat, smooth...

Tell me about surf entries and exits

Now that you mention it, although I go backwards my body is at a slight angle because I can't turn my head around like an owl and I want to see what's coming. Anyone suggesting entering the water going face first into heavy surf has got a death wish or they're just messing with you.
