Why a can light in today's environment?

I prefer long burn times for the eventual Deco. Ever tried to do 1:30 minutes deco in a black cave where you can't even see your buddy? Even back up lights won't work there.

    Exotic/oddball/unusual dive spots?

There's a geothermal Hot springs on the border of Utah and Nevada at the edge of the Great Salt Lake, just south of Wendover, UT. It's diveable, about 50 feet wide and 100 feet long. There are many "things" in the lake to make the diving less monotonous and a bunch of shops in Salt Lake City...

    Supporting your LDS exclusively?

One of the LDS's in Reno Nevada is Sierra Dive shop. They have been open since 1969. The way they hook you into buying more there is the more you buy, the more of a discount you get. It works for me. The kids in the store (I call them kids because they are much younger than my kids) give me...

Does anyone else hate the new forum layout?

This forum looks a lot like cave divers forum, rebreather divers forum etc.

    Argon - Question

Another thing with diving with Argon. It only works if you replace all the air in your suit with Argon. This will require you to vent (squat) and get as much air out of the suit before you fill with argon. Because of this and because Argon is kinda expensive, I don't use it until I really...

Dumbest things you've seen a newbie diver do

I was diving off the Vision, Truth Aquatics about 15 years ago. My dive buddy was in the bunk with the flu. I knew it was the flu because I did the bunk thing in day 3 while he dived. Anyway, I was looking for an insta buddy. The conditions were not good. At the dive briefing, we were...

    50+ year old divers

50 + 11 Reno, Nv Mexican River Maya Caves, Florida Caves, Monterey, Peace Dive Boat, Horizon Dive Boat. Sierra Dive, Reno, NV PADI Rescue, IANTD Advanced Nitrox, Apprentice Cave (Full Cave hopefully in Florida in 11) Nope - not kidding about the age. I refuse to get old. Just ask my 55...

    How Many Dives in 2010.

I put 50+ - yep battery died b4 I could download. I think that's a good guess since I got my IANTD Deep diver, IANTD Advanced Nitrox and Apprentice Cave all done this year. That plus 3 trips to So Cal for 3 day boat trips and 3 trips to Monterey, 4 dives each trip. Guess I should have...

Is a Nitrox Analyzer worth the money?

I use steel tanks. There is always a chance of rust in a steel tank. Rust is oxydation. I always analyze my tanks right before I use them. I'd hate to breathe of a hypoxic tank.

Funny, Stupid, Dangerous things done with Scuba

When I was in Cozumel July 09, there were a large group of us (14) and I was with the "advanced group" Our DM lead on all the dives. He was dilligent that we all follow him and was observed counting divers behind him. So on the last day we were all trained like children to follow him. That...

    Best diving in USA poll

I've dived the Caymans, Hawaii, Pt. Hardy, Puget Sound, Red Sea, Galapagos, Florida Caves and Mexico Caves and California. The places I'll go back to over and over, California, Mexico Caves, Florida Caves and the Galapagos. I do want to try the Refugio's, the Mexican Galapagos. Closest...

No gas -- what do you do?

Because I use double tanks, manifolded, with 1st and 2nd stages from alternative sides, I'd go for my secondary regulator. Then signal my buddy that I had a problem. If I'm on a single tank (talking from history here) I'd signal my buddy. Back when I was diving a single tank my usual buddy...

DSLR - Nikon vs. Canon Do you have an opinion?

While I don't know a lot about cameras I do know there are two big differences. The Nikon has better "glass" Their lenses are superior. But Cannon cameras are historically more reliable. When I told my dive buddy about that he bought a cannon Xsi. As long as you don't go for the Nikon...

    Finding the boat

My navagation is to ALWAYS follow either anchor line to the bottom. First, check the depth of the anchor line, then head perpendicular to the bottom. Before setting off, set the bezel on your compas to have one tab pointing at the arrow where you are going. Then dive in that direction. It...

What did you buy that you regret?

I regretted I bought a BC. It was a nice BC and I paid a lot for it. Air II, Integrated weights, comfortable. Then I saw the BP/W. So now I have a really nice BC collecting dust in my garage.

    Thought about Cave Diving?

I'm a recent convert to Cave diving. Last year I worked hard for my Cavern and Intro Certifications. I made one nice non-training dive near the end of our vacation. The last day we jumped in Jenny, planning on doing the slot? and I made a birds nest out of my primary reel. So I switched to...

anyone wear hood over dive mask strap?

I used to put the strap over my hood and yes - it has been kicked off that way. When I met my snuggle buddy, he advised me to put it under the hood. I said I'd never had a problem and jumped. But my jump was a little wobbly and I got the wash as I did a summer sault under water. Yep - the...
