Most dives in Cozumel are drift dives so you'll get plenty of these. Paradise Reef is a very shallow reef with little to no current and it makes for a nice and easy night dive. Here is a shot from last October.

We took the ADO bus back in October and it was a very easy and convenient transfer. We spent around $60 pp roundtrip (bus+ferry), and it took about 2 hours each way. The 30 min ferry ride can be rough sometimes.

I am not sure why a Cozumel DM would have an incentive to tell a customer that it's ok for them to go dive somewhere else for a day when they could make more money if they told the customer they shouldn't do it. But I do agree with everything you said about the Cenotes and wreck diving.
