Taking my reg/computer setup on cruise

Unfortunately, the connections are just not-quite-standard enough that you can sometimes get bit. Typically, the connector on a low pressure hose for an integrated inflator/air2 combo has a larger diameter than for a non-integrated inflator. So if you show up to a shop with your regs rigged...

    Drygloves

Yup, dry gloves are common among drysuit divers in Monterey -- though certainly not a necessity. Wet gloves are probably slightly more common. I only recently made the switch to dry gloves myself; most of my buddies dive dry, but with wet gloves.

?conditions for breakwater this weekend (7/13/08)?

Today was excellent, and tomorrow looks to be even better. There was nearly no swell, so entry and exits were exceptionally easy. Viz was a fairly typical 10' to 15' in shallow water (depths less than 30' or so). But at greater depths the viz opened up beautifully, to probably 30'. In...

    Dry Suit issue

Nope, your zipper shouldn't fail after 20 dives. You might try dealing directly with DUI's service department. I've consistently had good experiences with them. For instance, I once punctured my bootie and sent the suit directly to DUI for repair. When pressure-testing after making the...

    Rate my First Setup

In general, that's a good set-up for the diving you intend to do. Those are good regs, and the BP+wings with a basic harness will be the configuration you'll want if you end up pursing technical training down the road. It's also a great configuration for your recreational diving in the...

    Cold at 78

I wear a 3mm full-suit in those temperatures, and if I'm doing multiple dives or a night dive, I'll often add a hooded vest.

    Diving from a Kayak

I'm just getting into kayak diving myself (in northern California). I found these two resources to be enormously helpful: KAYAK DIVING & FISHING, Surfing, Exploring, and Play! kayak diving I believe the e-book for sale at that first link includes information on repairs; so did the owners...

    Point Lobos - 3 for 1?

I often dive Lobos as part of a three-man buddy team. If at all possible, we try to do everyone a favor and come in in one car.

    routine speargun maintenance

Hi all - I'm totally new to spearguns and I'm interested in learning. I found a JBL Explorer 20 while ab diving recently, and now I'd like to clean up and try it out. My question is: what kind of maintenance do you commonly perform on your spearguns? This gun has been underwater for a...

    Rough Conditions

Ft. Ross was flat today, with very little wind or current. Viz was limited to 5' - 10' or so. Still, we had abalone for dinner.

    Rough Conditions

Did anyone go out on the north coast today (Saturday)? I'm thinking of heading up to the Ft. Ross area on Sunday for some abalone diving -- would love to hear a conditions report.

    Saturday Diving

We had 30' or so of viz at Pt. Lobos, diving in the 50'-70' depth range. It was a beautiful day, over-all.

    AirSource 3 - Wet Breathing

Whether it's a feature or a defect, it's a bad deal. Your LDS may be able to get it to breathe dry with some servicing; if not, I'd definitely replace it with something more robust. A real life OOA scenario is going to involve getting your OOA buddy a working regulator, and then safely...

Is the TransPac a full-on tech BCD?

If you know what instructor or what agency you'll be training with, his/her/their opinion is certainly worth more than all of ours. That said, a minimalist hog-style BP/W will almost always pass muster. A transpac may or may not.
