    Ndiver 42lb sidemount

You might not need a "sidemount pouch" as you already have pocket(s) in your suit. Some people love back zipper drysuits, I don't. I want to get out by myself.

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

So, in terms of the kinetic gas theory, enthalpy is a measure of the (kinetic) energy of all the gas atoms/molecules together? So, it tells what the absolute maximum amount of work is that a certain amount of (heated?) gas can do? Oh, you already said "the total energy available"... So probably...

    Ndiver 42lb sidemount

Y You should pay attention to two things: 1) the wing 2) the weight system You have independent 12L steel cylinders just like I have. I dive with them sidemounted. 7L steels of course feel a million times better, but 12L are OK and carry much more air. You would typically mount these on a belt...

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

I'm pretty sure I've seen the definition of enthalpy, and done some basic calculations, but I've forgotten that stuff. I fear very few people understand enthalpy. Could you explain it in plain terms?

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

Two sources: 1) mass flow > electricity 2) pressure drop > cooling effect

    Tec solo training

Any tec training should teach you the skills that you need to dive solo. - else you would be a liability, not a resource. Once you are self-reliant, you can choose to dive in a team (may be safer) or solo (with assumed risk). Now, it does get complicated: If you dive alone, then you may have a...

Question Drysuit temperature and time limits in 13C and 24C water

13C isn't terribly cold for a drysuit diver. 16C is nearly a skin dive temperature (I've done it). How long are the dives you plan to do? One hour? Two hours? Three hours? You want to avoid the thicker undergarments. In high flow this might be reasonable. In still waters, less so. Your cross...

Question Drysuit temperature and time limits in 13C and 24C water

Exactly. Activity creates a lot of heat.

Deep-stops vs shallow-stops: an interesting read.

The world of off-gassing is complicated.

Deep-stops vs shallow-stops: an interesting read.

Using VPM-B with conservatism or Buhlmann with gradient factors both can give quite similar deco profiles on these "shallow" max 180 feet dives. If the software had major flaws, I could be dead, on some dives, though. If the implementation is flawless, choice of deco model isn't a huge deal. I...

Deep-stops vs shallow-stops: an interesting read.

Oh, it happens to be VPM-B. Not really relevant, though. My dives are to a maximum depth of 180 feet! And I tend to spend some extra time in the shallows!

Deep-stops vs shallow-stops: an interesting read.

A battle between a scholar and a software engineer is sad, as they should co-operate. A software engineer should concentrate on what (s)he does better than the scholar - software development and numerical approximations. We cannot live without either. We need both knowledge and coding skill. I...

Deep-stops vs shallow-stops: an interesting read.

Deep stops vs. shallow stops. Too much theory, too little personal experience. Sure, there's the bubble formation. Some people do prefer deeper stops to avoid that in the first place. Some people allow some, and spend more time at shallow depths. Depending on the dive profile, either one could...

    What fins to purchase

No surprise there! I assume JetFins are not good for you (?). Have you tried split fins then?

"I advise new divers to not buy used gear"

Used cylinders are great, if they have been treated well and inspected. Used regs are great too. You need to service them, but you do need to service you regs anyway once a year (or two). Used suits CAN be good (mine was), but they do have a lifespan, so don't buy an OLD suit for A LOT of money.

Using ChatGPT to write comments/posts about dive equipment

It is much better to have an essay, written by a middle school child, complete with references, so it can be verified, than to have a well written seemingly correct answer that you cannot verify.

Drysuit diving - continual issues with air in legs/feet.

I do not keep my legs perfectly straight unless there are physical constraints (or I want to). Diving in a drysuit with elevated feet is perfectly normal. How??? Feet too light? Use the muscles of your back and legs. A wing is only a BUOYANCY compensator. It does not force your joints into any...
