Apeks XTX50 bubble deflector - Yay or Nay?

Mine came with both but that was ages ago. There's a small round button that you press and pull the deflectors apart. Then you can push in the bigger ones.

Question How many messages have you posted on SB as a multiple of your total lifetime dive count?

You cannot just count 'dives'. You need to count types of dives.

I have that light. It's quite usable, with some room for improvement.

Apeks XTX50 bubble deflector - Yay or Nay?

Yay Bubbles do float, and they do float away. You are already neutrally buoyant and exhaling only makes you slightly negative for a second or two. The wider bubble deflectors do not really trap any significant amount of air (or any?). I have been using them for 10 years and I haven't felt any...

Not Feeling Well? New Hand signal.

If a person feels sick under water then (s)he has two options: #1 to throw up under water (which can be done with or without a reg), or #2 to resurface In what case do we need anything but the thumb up signal?

    They're not feeling well

Not Feeling Well? New Hand signal.

I have never been told "exactly when" to thumb a dive. A thumb up has always been an unconditional thing. I have been trained by CMAS, PADI, NAUI, IANTD, PSAI and TDI. Global minimum?

Why are AL80 tanks often refered to as 12L tanks (rather than 10L?)

The 200 ATM AL80 cylinders are not 12 litre cylinders by internal volume, but 11 litre. Besides, their buoyancy is hugely different from the standard 12L 232 bar steels we use here. You forget one thing: Amount is Pressure times Volume. Aluminum cylinders tend to hold 200 ATM pressure. Steels...

Why did Horse Collar BC's fade away?

Well, being a historical diving society member I do have a horse collar BC. It goes around the neck and it is kept in place by foot loops. It sucks. It hurts in the neck. I do not want such a constraint. True Back inflation BCD:s are great for diving (but not great if you are unconscious). I...

Question How many messages have you posted on SB as a multiple of your total lifetime dive count?

This is very true. If I want to go diving, it will take me - one hour to get to the diving club hut and to blend gasses - one hour to drive to a dive site - one hour of pre/post dive stuff - one hour under water - one hour driving back - one hour for equipment maintenance and getting home - some...

Quality and Quantity are inversely unrelated. Hence, pubsters publish some of the Greatest Posts

Question How many messages have you posted on SB as a multiple of your total lifetime dive count?

Why can't we make this really complicated? The derivative of the value of [(10x Bullseyes + 1x Likes - 10x Disagrees) / #Dives] per year? This would give us the speed of personal growth! Or maybe we take the value per month and integrate that over time to get the net goodness of a person? I am...

Should i purse career as underwater videographer?

Nothing here says that you can create some good art. You can dive, but can you make a film?

Should i purse career as underwater videographer?

It is great to have dreams, and sometimes we can make them come true. I hope that you understand that all of this is irrelevant. You want to pursue a career in the arts. Your art needs to be good. Your challenges do not lie in diving skill but elsewhere. Your ability to dive deep and without...

Do not ever say you are a rescue diver

Great! One cannot be a diver without sinking! Nice. Why? During those few seconds under water (s)he had not accumulated ANY dissolved nitrogen. This means that ANY ascent rate would have been perfectly OK, as long as (s)he exhaled. You had no duty of care, legally. And you had equalization...

    Drysuit Sizing

Drysuits are wonderfull !!! They will, however, only keep you dry, not warm. You will need some "undergarments". Do not get a drysuit that is a snug fit. You'll need a lot of room for warm clothing. Rubber, cordura, plain trilaminate, crushed neoprene as the last resort. It takes some time. Be...

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

So enthalpy is only related to the temperature and material in question?

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

When you fill the tank, then molecules will hit the walls more times per second. Hence the cylinder walls heat up (vibrate). This heat is then dissipated into the environment. Eventually, an equilibrium is achieved. This is the first energy loss.

You are not a caver then. The Cave Diving Group has relied on sidemount for decades. The Mendip Hills AONB with its caves isn't terribly far away.
