    regulator choice

I fear you might be comparing sea salt to rock salt. Minor differences. All modern approved regs perform to a set standard. I have used 5 types of breathing apparata: 1. Apeks regulators. Great regulators. I tuned the cracking pressure up to make them free flow a bit less. I like the fact that...

Solo Kit setup: the required, redundant, optional, and hell-no items

I want two independent sources of air on shallow solo dives. I dive in cold water and I do not want to abort dives when a regulator decides to free-flow. Another reason is that I might forget to monitor my air - this has happened at least once (yes, I do make mistakes). You might not need an...

    Breathing rate help ?

A lot of excellent advice is given above. Take your time, relax, do not swim too fast, find a position where you can comfortably rest in the water (this means that you are neutrally boyant and truly horizontal), calm your mind, breathe normally and forget about air consumption rate (monitor...

    Hello everyone! My Octopus Teacher/Cancun

I went to Yucatan a long time ago. Rented a car. Chichen Itza was great. Hilario's well (Hidden worlds) was an unforgettable snorkeling experience (it's a cave). Traveling to Calakmul (it's far away) might also be inspiring, if you're adventurous. Lots of exciting ruins in the area and Rio Bec...

Which do you think is less dangerous at 160ft? Open-circuit air or CCR trimix?

Only the better ones have audible and tactile warnings ;)

Which do you think is less dangerous at 160ft? Open-circuit air or CCR trimix?

And hey, one good thing about sidemount is that when you forget to change regs regularly at 150 feet and you run out of gas in one cylinder, a very stupid thing to do, I did it, then you have at least another one to do the ascent.

Which do you think is less dangerous at 160ft? Open-circuit air or CCR trimix?

I have been diving to 154 feet on air, sidemount, 3 feet visibility, overhead, total darkness. The amount of gas narcosis is significant. Only a Gopro can recall your dive - unless something truly traumatic happens. Warning beeps from your dive computer will get registered... sometime... later...

How to convert Garmin PSi/min to Suunto CF/min SAC rate

While the surface volume (suunto) is pressure (in atmospheres) times actual volume, plus some coefficient to convert between US and metric systems (psi vs. bar/atm and cf vs. litres), compressibility may be taken into account too. Pressure and amount of gas are no longer linearly dependent when...

Question How old are you and how long certified? Poll- please take part!

54 and got certified at 40. I wanted to become a diver in my teens, after watching Cousteaus films, but my parents could no afford it. And then I had studies, work etc. Diving had to wait for a quarter of a century.

    Freedive Decompression Sickness

You do not need S.C.U.B.A to get the bends on a freedive. Herbert Nitsch, no limits. He did not walk well after his survival. Herbert Nitsch - Wikipedia

    Disturbing trend in diving?

For many people diving is nothing but a fun day trip. They pay for it and they expect to be taken care of. Diving as a hobby or as a profession is much different.

Question Tricks/Hacks to stretch bungee around tank valve?

Which bungee setup? There are several. I am using a 1980s style bungee around the valve knob, which is pointing down, not to the side, (twists 45 deg out while being used), and it is easy to use (with a thumb) as it is not overly tight.

Looking for advice for intro to cave/cave 1 equivalent

Oh, sorry. ESF/FSE might not cut it... Backmount and european caves might not always be a happy marriage. Sounds like CMAS, founded in France :D There are many organizations, PSAI, CMAS, NAUI, IANTD, TDI, ... but you really need to pick a good instructor who actually does cave dives.

Looking for advice for intro to cave/cave 1 equivalent

You need a new hobby where you will meet sidemount cave divers and find a more affordable path. Now, this path starts with no water. https://www.eurospeleo.eu/
