Well, I dive a backplate, but most SCUBA-related marketing that I see is based on silly gear options like BCDs with elevator buttons, etc. You could make a broad assertion about people you don't know, in a part of the country you aren't familiar with, and in many cases you'd be dead wrong...

My one knock about Jets is that the foot profile is a rectangle, where the top of my foot is rounded. Even wearing Scubapro boots, I find them a PITA to remove at the end of a dive.

What size wings are you considering? No 40 lb. lift wing is going to be "streamlined" for warm water dives. You might want to figure out if you want a compromize wing to do double duty for both warm and cold water, or if you want a "streamlined" warm water rig.

I use six pounds less weight with my steel DSS backplate vs. a rental BCD. The DSS wings have a built-in integrated STA, so that's not a factor.

In the event it does get too dicey to dive from the north side of the island, AKR has been known to bring some of their boats around to the south side and transport divers by van to an alternate dock. I'm sure you guys will have a great time!
