Does this really ever happen? How often has /does a regulator actually fail?

What if it's your inflator that fails "open" when that IP creeps up? Can you disconnect the hose when it's under pressure? Have you tried? There are a lot of potential problems that a pony bottle won't solve.

    Shoes with flippers

IMO, a bit more neoprene in a dive boot is not a bad thing. I dive both of those dive boots exclusively in warm water, the extra 2mm or 3.5mm in thickness is not a problem, in fact I find they provide better support for sloshing in from a shore dive than the 3mm booties I've used in the past...

    Shoes with flippers

They're "fins", not "flippers". :) I mostly shore dive with a pair of Pinnacle dive boots (an older model from a couple years back), but for long walks over rocky terrain like ironshore, Scubapro's heavy duty boots would be just the ticket: SCUBAPRO - HEAVY DUTY BOOT

Any direct flights from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale to Roatan?

AA flies to RTB on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from MIA, as RTBDiver points out, and Saturdays from DFW. Delta has just the one Saturday flight per week out of ATL. United has the old Continental flights every day from IAH, twice on Saturdays. Most of the resorts are expecting a...

HOG D1 vs SP MK17/ MK25 for Doubles?

I'd be happy to take those crappy Scubapro regs off your hands, I wouldn't even charge you for my trouble. :eyebrow:

Best Diving in the Florida Keys?

Nice. Of all my dives on the SG, I don't think I'd ever describe any of them as "current free".

Best Diving in the Florida Keys?

Benwood can be a good night dive. I used to like to go out to the City of Washington site at the Elbow back when Silent World ran night dives to that site, especially on full moons.

    Airlines reduce carry-on bag size..

Did you even look at the link I posted? Worry more about the employee inside the luggage hold, stacking the bags coming off the conveyor belt from the tarmac.

    5' hose routing

I've been diving a 5' Miflex hose for a few years now, it works just fine. The only thing to be aware of is that the Miflex has a tendency to "remember" or retain the coil, which you may notice doing modified s-drills, but you'll have it worked out in no time.

Best Diving in the Florida Keys?

If the OP's dive count is accurate, I'd advise him to wait to dive the Grove and Duane until he's developed quite a bit more experience.
