Your talking about what the oil and gas industry have been successful at doing, but pretty much no one else.
Voyis did seem to have something going, but they appear to have pivoted to photogrammetry only.
To date, there are only three companies that make proper laser scanners.
You can improve your results with stereo photogammetry. It isn't so easy to do (I know one university that was looking into this without results). Check out the Voyis system.
Naw. Some people are so thin skinned they need a safe space to avoid merited criticism.
Many folks in the DIR community are tired of the snowflakes crying about elitist attitudes, some of which is warranted (more from the past), some of it isn't. But they need to put on their big boy pants...
My advice for DIR proponents who wish for the bad reputation/feelings to go away is to simply stop talking about it. Threads like these are counter productive.
It took decades for the impact of GI3 to mostly die off. I say mostly as some DIR people will bring him up on occasion. Ideally...
I tend to dive solo, but when I dive off a boat in some tropical location, I'm pretty horrified (most recently Cuba and Belize). I know most of the people have just no clue, but as I tend to hang in the back when guided in a group, I just watch carnage. If the definition of just fine for...
I took it at 5th Dimension, before 8 was opened (the LDS I recommend in the Seattle area, for West Sound it is Jade Scuba).
Conformance is only for the course.
An injury (guessing here) could make Hogarthian a non option. Sorry about that.
it absolutely is overkill. However, my understanding is that they want consistent procedures no matter what the dive is. I can understand that, not trying to break habits/procedures and introduce new variations, just build upon previous foundations.
Like what is the point of always diving...
Before I took fundies, I was told "you don't have to drink the Kool Aid, just go for the skills." And that's what I did. I still dive air, solo, a Prism2 rebreather.
I do find tremendous value in fundies for improving recreational diving skills. It is a recreational skills course after all...
I see it being recommended ad nauseum on Facebook, even though the performance requirements are not that much different than what is required in open water.
Flat mirrors just don't have the field of view. Convex mirror makes things look smaller, and with my eyesite, that's an additional risk. I'll take looking up.
There's no scientific studies backing the whole "you need to be perfectly horizontal for offgassing" anyway. If someone wants to take...
Hey can you do me a favor and post a picture of yourself with your head turned 180 degrees?
My neck isn't that flexible, and I find it much easier to be vertical and be able to look up and turn around to look in all directions with minimal resistance.
But if you can do the same while pronated...
So I've had this converation with a GUE instructor. In no way do they expect people to be trim all the time. They just practice it a lot to be able to do so. Real world diving, only when applicable (like finning around).
