Well, I've read cases of people actually going to prison. How common is that? I have no idea. Is the justice system perfect? No. If I remember this thread when I speak to friends who are prosecutors or criminal defense lawyers, I'll ask them.
No it isn't and you prove my point. The government has regulations. If they didn't and allowed the market to dictate safety (which wouldn't result in improved safety). The government gets involved when there is failure of compliance/lawsuits.
Seatbelt requirements, crash test requirements.
Sure, we could mandate carbon fiber frames, smaller cars, etc..
I'm quite familiar with what is being driven in Europe as I spent a fair bit of time there, mostly in Greece. And my uncle in Athens advised me many years ago, expect everyone to be...
From Cell Phone Use While Driving and Its Legal Implications
Vehicular Assault: If you cause injury to another person while distracted on your phone, you could be charged with Vehicular Assault. This offense is a Class B Felony and carries up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000.00 fine...
Agreed. For me, video is an excellent teaching tool. It is used for many sports, it was used in my GUE fundies course. The video doesn't lie.
I don't understand why any instructor would allow for a student to bring a camera, even if standards allow for it. The purpose of the class is for...
So I'm not a lawyer. But I would guess that since the NPS ranger was a divemaster and didn't check if they had a permit, means of communication, etc.., the defense would argue that the federal government had partial blame. Just a wild arsed guess.
I have always been a proponent of using video during teaching (though I never got there personally). I was planning to set it on a tripod, have a large micro SD card and have the students perform skills in front of it. Though I'd have an assistant manage that, so that after dives we can do a...

Don't let anyone invalidate your feelings/fears/concerns. You'll get past them, but in your own way and in your own time. As you are located in Sydney, are you a member of the Scuba Dive Sydney group on Facebook? Bei Facebook anmelden (interesting name of the link in blue, but...
Just wear your harness and BP under your coat! I've never had to do it, but would in a pinch! Then put it in my backpack once on the plane. Cargo pants and photographer vests are super useful for circumventing carryon weight limits.
Story time: once flying back to the US from Greece, i left...
it depends. I had a student who seemed to have the body density of a rock and didn't need lead except in the cold water. If such a person has cold tolerance of diving a shorty in the Puget Sound (I've seen two so far), then a carbon fiber BP may be the better solution.
For temperature wimps...
Well this is true I never planned to get into technical diving much less rebreathers when I started out. However it makes the most sense to have a setup that's optimized for the diving that they currently plan to do, not less than ideal configuration that can work for both technical and...
I think 16 kilos of lift is sufficient for single tank cold water diving. I use a little less than that. Ideally you would get both for optimal lift, but if you want a one size fits all the 16 will work for warm water of course just a pedantic extra bit of drag
Not sure. I'll have to ask him.
I have an XDeep Zeos. it is also well made. If I was only buying product in Europe, I'd probably buy the Tecline as it is cheaper and a good product.
