PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

Well some of you sure complain about it a lot. I have yet to meet a PADI instructor working for a shop that isn't under pressure to get the class over with. So yeah, the instructor going above and beyond is a rarity. I've lamented with other SDI instructors that few add appropriate...

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

LOL, and why is there so much PADI bashing? Is it due to the overwhelming percentage of good instructors? LOL

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

Doesn't conflict whatsoever. I showed what instructors need to teach. And it shows that it is a fluff course. The industry as a whole could provide a lot more value than what it does.

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

It would be nice if you would ever offer anything of value like corrections. I listed the performance requirements. That's what instructors have to teach to.

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

I'll do it for you. Deep Dive OnePerformance Objectives By the end of Deep Dive One, student divers should be able to, with a buddy and withinstructor guidance as appropriate: 1.Plan and manage gas use, including determining turn pressure, ascent pressure and reserve pressure. Establish no...

Error A Story of Poor Judgment

And dive instructors tend to be young and not teach that long anyway.

    Attitudes Toward DIR Divers

I doubt Andy had any effect on the industry adopting neutrally buoyant instruction. And I'm skeptical about this Herculean effort. Please don't say look it up on scubaboard, as you said here: Failed CESA in OW Let's try to understand the basic rules of logic. If you say something exists, and...

    Attitudes Toward DIR Divers

To no surprise, statements, as they always do, when discussing the opposite ends of the agency quality spectrum go to the absurd. And of course the ridiculous statement of instructors who teach for GUE and PADI both decide to be incompetent when teaching under the PADI system. I wish the idea...

    Attitudes Toward DIR Divers

Come on guys, this is ScubaBoard. You all should be used to argumentum ad absurdum by now! :stirpot: :p:rofl3:

That's not my impression though. Not the case with Big Blue (which I own). My last purchase was from Kraken. result helped me decide.

Do you care about output? Your choices are eitehr constant output and then off or a slope of output until it turns off.

    SLAM and LiDAR Cave Mapping

It certainly is. The known check points can be used to recalibrate the IMU data. That takes some additional effort, but if the scientific use of the data warrant it, it can certainly be done and will greatly improve accuracy. A lot comes down to money. What is the precision required?

    SLAM and LiDAR Cave Mapping

If that is the application, sure. If used by scientists, then... So Richard, I know about this topic morre than you, so sit down, class is about to begin A fixed line laser scanner like the Voyis Insight or the Newton Labs PL3200UW-LW generate scan data. This must be correlated to position...

So there are limits to underwater laser scanning. The limits are: 1. Visibility 2. Ambient light. The answer to both is more power. But there are limits. Here's an image of a propeller scan performed in Lake Union last May.

    Attitudes Toward DIR Divers

So I do know something about GUE, but I'll still respond based upon how I stayed away initially due to the instructors at the PADI shop I was at that called them the "military of diving" which didn't sound like any fun to me. I made the mistake of staying away as a result for years until...

There is that internal memo stating that they should maybe look more closely into that shop.
