    Dema show???

When DEMA was in February, there was a lot of attendance, but when it moved to October, the attendance began falling off. The travel industry wanted the move. Most dive shops are still running trips in October. Most equipment reps can do regional shows and see more shops at a lower expense...

    Dumb question about NC diving

You can dive on most of the offshore wrecks anytime and see sand tigers. They are a common site, except of the U-352. It is too small for them to hang around on during the summer.

    CoolPix L18 and Ikelite Housing

Ikelite has the CoolPix L18 and a housing on their web page. It looks like a good combination. When you read the information about the camera, under the 15 modes, there isn't an underwater mode. Has anyone used this camera underwater? If so, what were your results?

    Dumb question about NC diving

The best thing to do is to call the shop and ask. I know Discovery in Beaufort will give you the option of an instore credit for later use or they will issue a refund if a charter is cancelled because of weather.

    starting spear fishing

Classes give you a variety of equipment and techniques to use. Start with a pole spear to learn aiming and size judgement. Once you get good at hitting your target with the pole spear, move up to a speargun. Try out different sizes that let you see which one is more comfortable to you to use...

    Get the word out

I know you were not ranting at NC crews. I just wanted to let new doubles wearers realize that they needed to make sure they are on because NC crews will help double wearers to the entry point, but will not check the valves.

    Get the word out

Doubles do not get checked. Because of the way divers have them set up, both on or isolated, they are not touched.

    Get the word out

When divers come to North Carolina, the first thing that they realize is that they are not in Florida or in the Caribbean. The offshore dives are usually in the 85 to 120 foot range, although we do have some inshore wrecks that are in the 60 to 70 foot range. Some dive shops require that...

    SeaLife DC800

When I take macro pictures with the DC800, the center is okay, but the edges are blurry. My canon in a housing, from further away and zooming in, takes all clear pictures.

    Morehead City or Hatteras?

The water off of Morehead and Beaufort will be warmer than off of Hatteras. Most of the wrecks out of Beaufort Inlet will have sharks on them. For the ones that don't dive, there is Fort Macon, a civil war fort that has been restored on Atlantic Beach. The Maritime Museum in Beaufort has a...

    Key Largo Question

I've been out with Sea Dwellers several times. The Captains and crew were always excellent. The boat is close to the Holiday Inn and Marina Del Mar, both within walking distance. I stayed at Marina Del Mar each time. It isn't fancy, but clean and close. There is a restaurant between the 2...
