Thoughts on the DIR III Video.

Yeah, OK. Perhaps someday, when you've been around the block a few times, you'll understand how seriously misinformed you are. Yoos guyz crack me up, eh! You win. :D Mike

Thoughts on the DIR III Video.

Your reaction is typical of those of haven't used a BP/wing setup. Things aren't always the way they appear. ;) Mike

DIR: God's gift to diving or Hell spawn?

They still tell their students they can train for narcosis. They offer courses that do just that. Look, IANTD isn't the worst of the bunch and neither is Tom Mount. Sure, he's said some pretty dumb things like: "In fact mix training in open water/ wrecks is most likely the most hazardous...

DIR: God's gift to diving or Hell spawn?

Absolutely. The more you dive deep air, especially without problems, the more you think you can handle it. Studies have shown that a diver will feel like they are better at dealing with narcosis over time, but, they are still narced at the same level (as determined by motor tests). Mike

    issues with BP/wings

Well, I e-mailed them and here's what they said: Hello Mike, thank you very much for your e-mail and feedback. We are a newly established company and as we do little business abroad we do not benefit of any special discounts or benefits from our courier. The price paid of $18 for your...

DIR: God's gift to diving or Hell spawn?

My point is not individuals evaluating and taking risks. It's when they don't know (read - not taught) the actual or potential risks involved. When someone says that narcosis adaptation is possible, they are either LYING or are ignorant. All of these guys have said it in one form or another...

    issues with BP/wings

Wow. Something doesn't seem right to me. I bought a TX40/DS4 for $190 from DiveInn and the shipping as $18. The reg was in my hands in four days. I bought a Vyper from Simply Scuba $219 and shipping was $15. It was in my hands in three business days. Cripes! I just bought a reg from the...

    Wings of death?

Absolutely, but we have no vested interest in seeing someone buy something (at least I don't). It doesn't matter to me one way or another if someone goes out and wastes a ton of money on needless gimmicks. I'm not a shop owner, representative of any manufacturer, nor do I make my living within...

    Wings of death?

I'm not saying the wings got him killed. For all I know, he got all narced up and passed out. The question becomes why was he so overweighted? What made him think he could be so overweighted? I've seen a lot of people show up at the dock with a wetsuits, double steel tanks, a steel deco...

DIR: God's gift to diving or Hell spawn?

I don't discount everything these guy have brought to diving. What I do have a problem with is their on going attitude that puts a lot people at unnecessary risk. They still beleive they can teach people to handle deep air reliably. I don't have a problem with their record breaking deep air...

DIR: God's gift to diving or Hell spawn?

What have people like Gentile, Watts, Gilliam, Boden, and Mount with all their "great accomplishments" really done for this sport? They are the best examples of what not to do, and who not to follow. Those who do often end up as bodies on wrecks like the Doria along with their infinite wisdom...

DIR: God's gift to diving or Hell spawn?

The bodies were probably of those who admired him, and others like him, for his deep air "accomplishments". He lived through doing that stuff, they should've too, eh? Crazy. Mike

    Nitrox certification comparisons

It took two classes  for me to get 100% O2 certified from TDI a few years ago. I don't know what all the other agencies do, but you're after a class that will teach nitrox up to 100% if possible. GUE does, of course. Good luck. Mike

Thoughts on the DIR III Video.

There is gear and configurations that work, and gear and configurations that work better. I think agencies tend to do things the fastest and easiest route possible. Motives can say a lot. Mike

Trouble getting DIR vids from SFDJ website

Of course, looks are the most important feature of scuba equipment nowadays. Price is runner up, with function and in-water efficiency coming in around tenth or so. Mike
