    Bad Leg Cramps

Usually second dive for me that the cramps would show if they were going to. Would add.. Bananas give me the poops so I switched to OTC Potassium & Magnesium tablets. Taken with plenty of water. Over tight restrictive wetsuit in cold water will almost always give me cramps no matter what I...

    Headway made

Glad to hear.. Have a feeling he will come around to the long hose and necklace as well. At least he is on the learning curve. Is he using the BP/W while teaching? If so, is it OW?

The RIGHT thing to do in a blackout.

I see nothing wrong with your idea of tank banging to relay intention or info. As long as it is practiced and understood as part of the dive plan by all involved. You must remember that adding steps to a plan though increases task loading during a possibly stressful event. Try and keep things...

So is there a reason to be anxious

Believe BV has hit on something with his reference to spearfishing and sharks getting more aggressive. First experiences with sharks was off Jupiter, FL. We were diving off a charter filled with spear fisherman. Being last in the water and following the group of fisherman down drift current...

The RIGHT thing to do in a blackout.

Based on my experience with silt out dive locations in mid water rising up to clear the cloud could cause a collision with an angled overhead. In which case deploying am SMB or lift bag in zero vis IMO as well as others is appropriate. In the case provided with no chance for overhead (In a...

Um... You would be running a line in a lake at 90ft OW? Do however see a flame.

The RIGHT thing to do in a blackout.

Sounds like you dive in the Grotto down the street from my house.. Hudson Grotto, Hudson FL. Assuming the conditions and what-ifs were discussed and proper gear selection made during the pre-dive briefing, I would call the dive, locate and deploy either my lift bag or SMB from depth then begin...

    HOG in magazines

Reading dive mags is like having the worst parts of your LDS show up at your house.

    USCG respect for dive flag

Land, sea or air. If a jurisdiction believes an infraction is about to occur, in the commission of, or a matter of safety, they will make contact. How they choose to do that is with in their discretion. In my experience on both commercial dive boats and private craft 99.9% of the time they...

How many divers have experienced is; or is it just ME (thanks)

Fresh water I will always feed the fish if its the only thing going on. Crawfish, mussles, whatever I can find. Salt water not so much. Reasons are apparent. Don't want to insert one's self anymore into the food chain than one all ready is. Pray for new eyes to see and they will be granted.

Student brings BP/W to OW class.

halemano, Perhaps I am, perhaps not. Believe the statements intent is clear to the majority. But here is another way to look at it.. Ignorance is not a symptom of stupidity. Stupidity does however hinder some ignorant. IMO it's stupid to speak or think of the ignorant as stupid.

Bad experience on very first dive... looking for some advice

I offer you the encouragement to get back on that horse. You made NO mistakes.... As stated the mistakes were made by those you hired for your training, supervision and most of all safety. Get the heck away from that instructor & DM!! At worst one of them should have met you on the surface...

Student brings BP/W to OW class.

I feel I must take issue with blanket statements that make all new student divers out to be incapable of understanding or learning other equipment configurations during an OW class. Statements like it is "easier on the new student diver" for one. The fact that the standards are at the lowest...

Student brings BP/W to OW class.

Thank you all who so far have responded to this thread. My use of the word "standard" was in part a flame towards those LDS owners who promote the sale, use and education with one type of product without examples of others. Please excuse my bias. IMHO the true professional side of the...

    Why Florida?

Tourism and Orange juice probably in that order. Just stating the lie "Sunshine State" (Actually it's the Rainy State. Arizona would be better suited for "Sunshine".) shows the extent that this State will go in bringing in tourist dollars. Probably Vegas first, FL second, spend the most...

Student brings BP/W to OW class.

I'm sure this has happened on rare occasions. Wondering how the agencies and their instructors would approach the situation being this gear config is not the industry "standard"? Reason I say I'm sure it does is because my GF who's IQ is way above average to say the least did her homework...

    Diving from your own boat?

Word of caution.....Friend who started diving from his boat. Open bow 21ft Larson. After just one season of diving off it ruined his interior and broke his ladder. Wound up taking out ALL the interior. Rino lining the inside hull, building and installing tank boxs and fold down plastic...
