    Rebreather Acronym Glossary for Dummies

Same. It annoys me because I forget about it since it breathes fine in trim, so the first couple breaths I'm always surprised. It's certainly not an insurmountable breathing position like some would have you believe, but I wouldn't wanna do a couple hours of heads up deco on it like that. It's...

    Rebreather Acronym Glossary for Dummies

The only time I ever had a problem opening mine was the very first time I took it out of the bag since it wasn't lubed. It's tight, but I'd hesitate to call it "hard." For people that have an issue, the head and body o-rings can be swapped for a smaller size down and it's even easier. I know a...

How do you like your Fusion drysuit?

I have one. It was my first dry suit. It's an original White's before Aqualung bought them. I hate it. The fabric socks suck, the trash bag suit traps air in funny ways. The trash bag suit folds in funny ways, doubles over, etc. Donning and doffing is annoying, it reminds me of trying to cram an...

Need help choosing a doubles wing.

Halcyon Evolve 60 for steel doubles. Halcyon Evolve 40 or Oxycheq 42lb Vertex for AL80's. Donut over horseshoe. Dive Rite doesn't even enter my equation because the alternatives are just better. Wetsuits and steels are a stupid idea. Using a lift bag for redundancy is one of those things that...

Computer + Plan or 2 Computers for Deco Diving

Desperate? Nah dog, I've just got a hell of a lot of experience. Been there, done that, have enough crappy free scuba t-shirts. Btw it says divemaster because I can't actually change it, believe me, I've asked. It's a function of how the forum software works. But, if you'd like to bring up...

Computer + Plan or 2 Computers for Deco Diving

Nobody is arguing that it's not an acceptable method (in terms of being usable), simply that it is far less optimal than a second computer. The relative cost of which is so minor as to be moot. There's literally no good reason in this modern age to CHOOSE a bt/slate IN LIEU OF a second...

    New DPV - Dive Xtras

Just saw the "specs" video. That thumb button trigger makes me sad. Thumb triggers suck, especially when it's a button. DeWalt batteries are probably the most widely proliferated tool battery around the world. It makes sense.

Computer + Plan or 2 Computers for Deco Diving

A second Shearwater can be had for $400. A NitekQ is $200. That's either $200 more than you'd be spending on your backup device, or the same price you'd be spending on your backup device. "I can't afford a redundant piece of life support equipment because $200 will keep me from buying $8000...

Computer + Plan or 2 Computers for Deco Diving

2 computers. At this point in the game, with the reliability of modern computers, and the benefits of having accurate data, there's no reason not to just go with two. In the past, when bottom timers were cheap, and computers were expensive, it made lots of sense to run bottom timers and cut...

    New DPV - Dive Xtras

I'd take one as a backup scooter. Decent enough range with the 12Ah batteries should do an alright job of getting you out of most caves if your primary scoot scoot takes a digger.

Subnautica - Anyone else playing this?

I've been playing it for a few years. I got into in when it was just launched in Early Access. It was pretty cool to see how far it came from the first alpha to launch. Not a whole lot of replayability once you've beaten the main story, but it's fun to put it into creative mode and just swim...

    Perdix, Deco plan (real time)

A lot of people subscribe to the rule of 3rds without actually understanding where it came from and why it's used in certain circumstances. It became the de-facto gas management paradigm for technical diving, but it is woefully inadequate in many circumstances. In fact, I would posit that it...

    What Torch to buy

The Dive RIte and DGX stuff are good. The DGX stuff is probably the best buy for the money. The OrcaTorch stuff gets good reviews too, and I have several friends that use them and like them. They just don't make a light that fits my use. I don't like Big Blue because they grossly overstate...

    Perdix, Deco plan (real time)

Not even the GUE wünderkind dive with their computers as a backup anymore. Your computer actually knows what's going on, it's not just a plan based on a perfect set of assumptions. Tables are great if your computer shits the bed, beyond that, they're inherently less accurate than a computer that...

Seeking advice regarding high end regs also for tec

Any reg with a turret and 5th port will be suited to both backmount doubles and sidemount. The Tek3's really shine on traditional rebreather setups with oxy/dil valves down on the back. Some people get uppity about hose bends with the Tek3's on backmount. It's not a real issue.

    PLBs Can Save Your Life

Hell yeah it does. They kill people every couple years in Japan, especially because it's so geologically active. Maybe not where you're stationed, but don't make that assumption if you travel elsewhere in Japan to go snowboarding.

    PLBs Can Save Your Life

Having a US registered PLB works fine in Japan. The NOAA alerts Japanese SAR assets. They have their own command center, but having it registered in the US is not a barrier. The entire idea behind a worldwide SAR network is that assets are activated from wherever. That's literally how all of...

    PLBs Can Save Your Life

PLB's don't work like that. It's not a country thing. Read this: How Do PLBs Work - PLB Review - Personal Locator Beacon Reviews The reception of the signal and the local response are different things. Local authorities don't receive the emergency signal from a PLB, although they have the...

What is the latest news about the Calypso (Cousteau's boat)?

This dude couldn't even get 10,000 people to "like" a LEGO model of the Calypso. Rebuilding the original? I'm not holding my breath. RV Calypso

Lake Pleasant, AZ, adjust for altitude?

The elevation at Lake Pleasant is entirely irrelevant. Both for this incident, and in general. It was not a factor in this incident, and the small change in elevation is irrelevant in general considering the elevation of all of the surrounding areas is anywhere from 1200-1700 ft anyway. You have...
