    Don't Go Boat Diving...

Good video! I wouldn't call that a BAD day at all underwater. Maybe I haven't given it enough effort, but your bad is my good. I wish I had a Parker like that, nice boat.

Time off for divemaster and a bit of surfing

Yes you do. DM is the entry level into professional diving. You are going to learn how to lead certified divers in open water and you are going to learn how to help and instruct new divers. It isn't a course that is all academic and it isn't a quick course.

Time off for divemaster and a bit of surfing

The prequisites for PADI DM are 20 logged dives, PADI Advanced, and PADI Rescue. To earn you certification you need to have 60 logged dives, meet the requirements for PADI DM and have a current First Aid and CPR certification. Search the threads, there are always threads about DMC...

    "Drift diving" definition

Any dive with or without the boat where the divers a just along for the ride in the current. As for the flag, a SMB with a flag on it is typically what I have seen or used personally. I've done drift dives where we used the boat as the SMB and had a drop line from the boat.

    HP 100 or 119

I have HP100 and HP130's. I doubled up my 100's last year. Pretty psyched for that set up. But I found I really missed them for pool work, so I got an old steel LP72 for pool stuff. The 100's are awesome for your shallower reef dives. The 130's are great for NC wrecks in the 100-115 range.

    snorkel yes, snorkel no

I open water, I always carry a snorkel, stowed in a pocket. The only time I wear/use one is in SCUBA classes.

    Diving vs. Posting About Diving

I'm very jealous of the folks that have descent to nice diving virtually in their back yard. I'd dive everyday if I did. Back when I paddled is used to work near the Great Falls on the Potomac and I'd go paddle for a few hours after work waiting for traffic to clear up and that was awesome. I...

    GA Aquarium reciprocity program?

Just got back from cleaning the Open Ocean tank. I asked our ADSO about the reciprocity programs. Some aquariums have programs, so do not. She seemed to think the GA program was one that didn't. She described the process as: contact your DSO, they'll contact the other aquariums DSO, they...

A few snorkeling questions from a newbie!

I don't know if I would call it an advantage to float like a cork, but there is some inherent safety to being able to float like a cork. Freedivers will weight themselves using weights and a weight belt. They will also usually use a rubber belt that will compress as the diver and the suit...

    Traveling question Regulator

I've got a regulator bag that will hold two sets of regs and our computers. They go on the plane with us when we travel. It isn't that big and easily is carry on size. Each of us have a rolling duffel and that is what our BC's, fins, masks, snorkels and clothes go into. Be careful though...

    GA Aquarium reciprocity program?

Ask the DSO at your aquarium. It is a small group, I'm sure they know each other! I'm going into tomorrow to clean some tanks and get some teeth. I'll ask the DSO at my aquarium.

Ahoy from Washington DC Metro Area

Welcome to the region. Up the road from you is Millbrook Quarry. It is in the Haymarket area. Lake Rawlings is also not too far away from you. Lake Rawlings - A Scuba and Camping Park There are a lot of wrecks off of the Eastern seaboard. From Cape Hatteras North, you are in the...

DIY video housing though and question...

I like the handle they did! I'm going to call around the shops and see if I can't find an old AL tank. I'm guessing if it didn't pass hydro, that it may be fine for this purpose. I can weld steel, but not AL. That is a bummer.

A few snorkeling questions from a newbie!

You do not have to be a 'good' swimmer, but you have to be able to swim. If you can swim 200 yards, that is a great starting point. I would look for a 7mm full suit or a 3mm two piece. A two piece will give you 6 on your torso. If you look specifically for a freediving wetsuit, you'll...

    Full foot or boot?

How is status tied to whether your fins are full foot or strap? Which by the way, if you would get spring straps for your fins, you're scenario would actually play out better. Your on watch with your booties on, something happens and you need to get in the water, you'll have better traction...

DIY video housing though and question...

I've seen a lot of threads where folks make video camera housings using PVC and other assorted plastics. Has anyone taken an old tank that maybe hasn't passed hydro and cut the ends off and use that as the body of the housing? If you did it with steel would it be negative? How about...

    Sea sickness patch

Try ginger tea. Get some ginger, grate it up, simmer it for a while and serve it up. I made up two gallons yesterday. The ginger really helps out with the stomach and your consuming liquid. I don't usually have problems with sea sickness. If I do, I pop once and then I'm done. My wife and...

    Pony Bottle Drag?

I would have not guessed at this. When it is full and horizontal it has less of a profile than 1/2 full. Makes sense, but counter intuitive. So fdog, sounds like you guys are just creating excuses to get in the water up there. How much beer was involved to get you guys in the water to...
