    Doubles etc.

These past few responses have been stellar. Thanks for the thoughts. As AquaW mentioned, you really can't begin to scratch the bottom? of NJ wreck diving without getting into decompression. Many of the larger wrecks lie in deeper water, and to spend some worthwhile time on these you have to...

i'm not ignoring advice, i'm simply offering counterpoints in an effort to continue brainstorming. Sorry if you feel that way.

if i'm on a boat, its for at least 2 dives.

Steel Bands and a Manifold is permanent. Not 100% permanent, but permanent enough where the 4 tanks that I currently own, that would become 2 sets of doubles, would decreaes my versatility in being able to do shore diving (I do a lot). I won't be using doubles to do that.

Based on the fact that I'm confident enough in my gas management skills and my ability to carry out multiple tasks without jeopardizing my safety. Of course I can't be 100% sure that it's not going to be an issue, but I'm as sure as I can be before actually doing it. The problem with finding...

    Doubles etc.

Most of the time I'm not diving with a buddy. I wouldn't exactly call it solo diving, but I do not wish this to become a discussion of solo diving. I would not apply this practice to decompression diving though. If I were to venture into deco diving I'd do with with a dedicated buddy...

most of the diving I do is in cooler water. While my drysuit and underwear do a lot to insulate me, cold body temperature is going to require increased aerobic cellular activity to keep homeostatic temperatures at 98.6, which will translate into more gas for my cells. if I was in warm water...

    Doubles etc.

the problem with a larger single tank is that its going to be High Pressure. Getting a complete fill on a high pressure tank in the middle of the busy summer is next to impossible. It will cool down and eventually offer no benefit over my LP 95 that is juiced up to 3000 PSI. The problem...

Well that much I figured....as with anything involved in diving its uber expensive.

    Doubles etc.

I have been happily diving a single 95 with a 30cuft pony. Most of the time it is filled with 28%, and most of the time I don't get to reap the benefits of the oxygen rich (and expensive) gas, as I run low on air before getting close to my NDLs. The next logical step then, would be to move on...

So I got the camera, now what?

My camera arrived today (Canon Powershot A640). I've been playing around with it and have to come to realize that it has a lot of customizable options that I'm not entirely familiar with. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a tutorial on digital photography in general, and...

    Thinking about the "what ifs"

I think a large portion of managing the scope of those "what if" scenarios is staying within your comfort zone. Last summer I would not even hazard to penetrate the wrecks that I frequently dive here in New Jersey. After getting a number of dives under my belt, fine tuning my buoyancy, and a...

Canada owes me a new camera...

Hello All, I used to have a Canon Powersho SD550 and was very pleased with the pictures it took topside. I didn't ever have a chance to see what it could do underwater, as it made an unexpected trip to the bottom of the St. Lawrence river while I was up there this past August. I am now...

    St. Maarten

Originally I was supposed to go to Costa Rica in March but certain logistical concerns have changed that destination to St. Maarten. Anyone have any experience diving this location? Is it worth it? Which operators did you use? How were they? What's the non-diving life like? I am a...

    Belize or Costa Rica

Hello Globetrotters, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a travel dilemma I'm having. I have the oppurtunity to go to either Belize or Costa Rica. Where should I go? I'll be travelling with 2 other non-divers so there should be some degree of outside non-diving activity...
