    Diving in Holland?

Plus, if you are lucky (?), you might see a Harry Potter lookalike trying to skateboard in the Binnenhof. The guys are right...Vinkeveen is booooring. Phil

Megaladon Tooth Dive for 14 yr old

If he said we can do this at another time, that's what I would recommend. I often dive in zero viz with strong currents...but I am 50 years old. First concern is his safety. Keep him alive long enough to gain the skills. The teeth will still be there. Phil

    Headed for Sharm in Oct

Hi Sam, Stefo is right...Egypt is as safe or unsafe for Americans as anyone else. I are one and am heading back in three weeks (!) for my fourth year in a row. Go...you'll love it! Phil

BCD Purchase - question and recommendations?

To add to what the other posters have said, a bp/w is more versatile and can be adapted to whatever type of diving you do in the future, And there are ditchable weight pouches avalailable from several manufacturers. I bought a Seaquest Balance as my first bc, then later bought a Diverite bp/w...

Marsa Alma Area -Ecolodges for Advanced OW?

Hiya Scott, When you moved over did you bring some Shiner Bock? I've been twice to Marsa Shagra and am going to Wadi Lahami on April 5th. You'll love it there. The camps and diving operations are well-run. Phil

Need Help, Oceanic Islander vs Seaquest Balance

Hi Steve, I can't speak to the Oceanic, but I've been using a Balance for about four years. I travel with it (Wadi Lahami in 4 weeks!!!) and like it so much that I would replace it with another Balance if anything happened to mine. Hope this helps. Phil

    marsa alam dive camps

Red Sea Diving Safari does a great job! I've gone to Marsa Shagra the past two years and am heading to Wadi Lahami in about 7 weeks. The camps are inexpensive but the operation is professional. Food...simple but good as well as being all-you-can-eat. Toilets and showers are kept spotless and...

Why not come to South Korea for diving?

I'd love to go back for a visit! Sam, I was stationed there in '78-'79 and again in '85-86. South Korea has rebounded from the war in a big way. It's a gorgeous country! That said, I doubt I would make a special trip for the diving. But I would visit Jeju for a couple of dives. Phil

    nitek duo

I've been using the Cressi Archimede (the original version) for four years now and still love it. If I ever replace it, I'll go for the Archimede II, Nitek Duo, Quantum, etc. Big numbers for these old eyes, easy to use and to replace the battery, and reliable. Great computer. Phil

Malta one of the oldest and newest diving destination in Europe.

Hi Tonio, Funny you should post this today...I've been looking at coming this summer to either Malta or Gozo with my son. He's asked for his Junior Open Water for his 11th birthday. What I am wondering is whether there are some very simple shore dives that won't be too difficult for him...

    American in Egypt

Hi Morgan, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself. But what sort of diving do you like? If you go to Sharm, you'll do boat dives...leave at 0800 or thereabouts, do two dives from the boat, then return at around 1700. You might also look at Marsa Alam, which, if I am correct, is about two hours by...

    American in Egypt

Hi Morgan, I'd like to add to Mania's excellent points, but from the American view. While I live in The Netherlands, I still carry an American passport and have travel to Egypt to dive in the Red Sea every year. Still have to wait another two months for the next trip, my fourth. Your...

    Traveling to Indonesia

I'll chime in to second Aquamarine as a gerat dive operation. I did my diving with them four years ago and found them to be excellent. Definitely take a day and go to Tulamben to dive the Liberty and the wall. Phil

    Equipment advice and hints

Are you sure you don't want a drysuit? I think you will enjoy your cold water dives a lot more wearing one. I've read about the Pinnacle wetsuit and it appears to be a very good choice. But I don't dive wet in The Netherlands anymore since buying a drysuit 3 years ago. Phil

Metric vs imperial Tables or Computer

The only real safety issue I see regarding units of measurement might be that it's safer to stick with the system you are used to. Big difference if you think you're diving at 60 feet and instead are at 60 meters... Phil

    Dive operator near Montpelier? Urgent!

Well, it's not exactly urgent for me, since I am at home, but a buddy just called me from a small village near Montpelier and asked me to post this request for information. He's on vacation there with his family and desperately needs to dive. He's got his gear with him...just need to rent...

Red Sea diving NOT a liveaboard

I'll second DS's recommendation of red Sea Diving Safari. I stayed at the Marsa Shagra camp in January and loved it. Going back as soon as possible! Phil

European SB meeting - split from goodbye SB thread

Darn, if it was gonna be in January, I would've gone along. Guess I'll just have to brave the 22 degree water alone. But it sounds like a fun trip! Phil
