    Shearwater CNS Metric

Here's what Shearwater itself has published on that question: Shearwater and the CNS Oxygen Clock - Shearwater Research For what it's worth people doing deep exploration diving will blow WAY past the limits that these computers recommend for CNS, surfacing with like 300% or much more. Not that...

Shearwater Owners with AI, do you dive with a SPG?

Yes I dive an SPG when/if I use my transmitter. I find the transmitter is frequently dead (out of battery) so I don't rely on it. If I leave it pressurized it stays on and drains the battery. Since I leave my doubles regs assembled on the tanks this happens quite often.

Question How does pressure increase with depth in water?

It was a fun and educational thread, it will be there in the search results for the next person or student to wonder the same thing. Kudos for learning something new, and for being cool enough not to make it an over-the-top argument like most people on the internet do these days.

DIR- GUE Tec1 with CCR in the making?

ROI really is questionable. You have to be diving trimix REALLY FREQUENTLY (or have limited helium access) for CCR to be a sound financial decision. The rebreather's hidden costs (expensive repair/maintenance/upgrades/necessary accessories) constantly eat cash (not to mention time). There are...

Question How does pressure increase with depth in water?

It actually would. As for the capillary red herring - now I'm actually not sure if water sucked up in a tall capillary would or wouldn't contribute normally to hydrostitic pressure. But it does NOT matter for the main question. The diameter of a capillary in this context would be on the order...

Question How does pressure increase with depth in water?

For the sake of severely complicating things unnecessarily, at some point the "vertical tube" could be thin enough that that capillary effects would be a consideration... https://www.usgs.gov/special-topics/water-science-school/science/capillary-action-and-water

Question How does pressure increase with depth in water?

Great thread. Several excellent posts, great to see such civil learning and debate. The thing that really took me a while to wrap my head around was the phenomenon where pressure increases linearly with depth, but expansion/compression of submerged air is exponential. Maybe partially a semantic...

Question How does pressure increase with depth in water?

It helps to think of the weight of the water above as "squeezing" all of the water below it rather than "pushing down".

First King of England to be a Certified Diver?

And the CIA tried to kill him with a poisoned wetsuit. Always thought that was pretty uncool.

Using back mount doubles as single tanks

That's the most visually beautiful set of doubles I've ever seen. Love the colors and decals. But man that's weird compared to what I dive. Does this not use bands? Is it just held together with the manifold and oversized boot? How does it attach to the harness/plate? What are the clamp-on...

    Free NiteScuba products review rewards

They're not looking for genuine testers, they're looking for biased reviews, brand visibility on the popular scuba forum, and google search ranking. If they wanted genuine testing they would be looking for independent labs to qualify specs like light output, impact durability, etc. It's...

Practical Water Electric Submersible for Underwater Activities

Do you actually mean LiFePO4 or are you thinking of one of the nickle chemistries? Just asking because I don't think of LiFePO4 as anything like lead, but much more of a modern battery for this kind of thing, albeit one that sacrifices a small amount of volume and capacity for increased safety...

    Big Heavy tanks!

Take your time to truly relax and catch your breath on the surface just before descending. Even if that means floating still at the down line for 3-5 minutes before putting the reg in your mouth. When I do this it saves a remarkable amount of gas. The exertion of gearing up, getting in, and...

Question Systematic review on the pros and cons of neoprene mask strap

My tech instructor strongly recommended switching to the neoprene/webbing/velcro style instead of the stock silicone straps because of the chance of silicone straps breaking. I tried it but personally never liked them, losing the stretchyness of silicone makes them harder to get on and off. I...

Gradient Factors - What is Everyone Using?

40/70 is the default I now run for everything including several hour CCR trimix dives. However I will sometimes do extra time at the 10 and 20 foot stops to let the surfacing GF come down to 60 or occasionally even 50 depending on the dive and conditions. Though that's not always easy in cold...

    Gloves and limited dexterity

Practice practice practice. You would be amazed how much one can get used to thick gloves and improve dexterity by repeatedly practicing skills and drills in them. Assuming you're talking wet gloves - in my experience a thinner glove with a good seal to prevent flushing ("semi dry" models or...
