British commandos during WW2 - drowning enemy divers?

Even if there WAS underwater hand-to-hand combat that seems like an unreliable, risky, and very difficult way to do it. Compared to say, using a weapon. I could believe luring them deeper was a technique.

Question Trying to decide between an electric powered or gasoline powered MCH-6 Icon...

Would it be crazy to underdrive one of these by changing the pulleys? Drop the RPM, wait a lot longer for fills, less heat and CO? Or add more effective cooling somehow?

Question Does higher level shop offer higher teaching quality for OW?

The star thing is meaningless. It's all about the instructor. Shops that teach and support technical diving or are owned by serious, active technical/cave divers generally will teach even the beginner courses better. But top of the line instruction will cost a bit more, you get what you pay for.

    Fast Diver Craft

Late contender for thread of the year. Anyone here have any actual experience using one of these things in the military or back in the day before people realized they're a pain to navigate and not really worth building for recreational purposes? If so whats it like? Fun? Not as fun as one might...

Rescue procedure if diver blown off wreck?

One trick the diver can try in this situation is taking a bearing on the current direction before ascending and swimming against it on ascent/stops. If you can make headway or if the current is lower at shallower depths you can surface closer to the boat or even upstream of it. The biggest...

LF: digital sources of Tropical Reef Marine ID other than fish

I've found that field guides are one of the few remaining areas where the internet is seriously lacking and physical books still still rein supreme. There are some exceptions - there are some excellent birding and terrestrial plant apps, and some specific regional websites/apps (eg. njscuba...

Question Become an instructor or a rebreather diver?

Going back to OPs original question - another option would be taking some time to do lots of dives and build lots of experience with their new tech certification before jumping to the next level, whatever that may be.

Spare air or sumthing like it

What you should get the kids is... dive certifications to whatever level is age-appropriate. If not that, teach them to snorkel which is great prep for scuba later on. Its very easy for an untrained kid to over expand a lung and die messing around with even a tiny scuba tank, even in a pool. It...

    Do you use TTL?

I use electrical sync cables because triggering the strobes that way consumes FAR LESS camera battery than firing the camera's built-in flash to trigger strobes optically. Camera battery life is the limiting factor on the long coldwater dives (or snorkeling) I do so this is a really big deal...

Why the hate for weights on AL80s?

If you're traveling and sidemounting rented Al80s for high-helium CCR bailout mix it makes sense to throw a small weight on the tank to help it trim out. But that's a specific scenario that not everyone is diving.

    Lifetime Free Dive log

I would never store any long-term archival data that I care about on any cloud service, not even a reputable one, not even google. And especially not one that requires a constant subscription. Been burned before. All it takes is for someone to make the business decision that deleting your stuff...
