Anyone know anything about DARPA's PowerSwim?

Can you tell more about this? Images?

    Normal config to Long Hose

Better than the single-purpose retainer stick on your belt, use a sheath holding a knife or shears as a longhose retainer. More useful.

It may have thought you would make a nice mate.

    Normal config to Long Hose

I strongly prefer a standard 7' hose, even for single tank recreational, because I find that it stows better than any intermediate length.

    Crazy Dive Gear Inventions/Innovations

The Aqueon / Powerswim fin is one of the best crazy scuba inventions because apparently it actually worked. There are some incredible reports of speed and endurance with these things. @John C. Ratliff https://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=4372...

    What single pressure gauge?

I like any of the relatively inexpensive 2 or 2.5 inch chromed brass and glass "made-in-italy" SPGs, several brands sell them but they come out of the same factory as far as I know. DGX, Piranha, HOG, etc. I especially like the white text on black background. Make sure you order your preferred...

    Snap ring vs retractors

Sometimes I use a camera lanyard made from two boltsnaps on a short line. You can clip the boltsnaps together to make it short, unclip to make it long. I could see a valid argument for using a retractor for the SPG or console computer in a recreational setup. Though another problem with...

    Snap ring vs retractors

Bolt snaps are far, far better.

    Silicone neck seal repair

Silicone is exceptionally difficult to glue and while it may be technically possible, you are better off replacing it.

Question Show me how you keep gear streamlined [Pics Requested]

This post nails it. Longhose + necklace eliminates big loops of hoses. Or if you don't want to go the 7ft primary hose route, get a nice short primary hose and figure out a neat and reliable way to store your octo and octo hose. Have a buddy take pictures or point out any time you have...

The best thing about this design is that the bladders could have been any shape, in any location, and would still work. But they chose that.

Error a death off Ulua Beach, Maui, has me wondering about scuba safety

People die doing all sorts of activities all the time. Especially outdoor sports. If someone dies of a heart attack or crash in to a tree while out for a bike ride, does that sport also need extra scrutiny and regulation? Diving deaths are often complex, poorly investigated, and the public...

What is a reasonable number of shore dives to get in a day?

I've played the maximum dives per day (or hours underwater for the week on CCR) game and it's a fun goal to strive for and a great way to make a Bonaire trip really worthwhile. Although I will say the park is amazing and worth skipping a couple dives to see. For context the following is in...

DIR- Generic Marked stages filled with lower O2?

This sounds like a bad, confusing, dangerous situation that should never occur underwater, and if it ever did, should result in a frank post-dive discussion on how the team got there and how to ensure it never happens again. It's not that hard to properly mark cylinders! Which includes covering...

How corrosion resistant are the Titanium knife and line cutter blades?

There are also line cutters with ceramic blades which are brittle but don't corrode. I think Piranha sells them.

Recommendations for thick-soled wetsuit booties for rough terrain shorediving?

Look at sailing "dinghy boots". A bit more expensive but sturdier and better constructed than most dive boots. Something like the Gill Edge maybe. Bare makes some dive boots that look relatively sturdy from the pictures.

DIR- Generic Marked stages filled with lower O2?

    • Analyze and properly label your cylinders every day before diving. • My AL40 has a MOD 70 sticker on it. When it is full of air I put a piece of tape over the sticker.
