    Prescription masks

I used SeaVision and have been happy with the results. Bifocals with a tad of astigmatism. Used my mask and their mask. Like their mask more. My local optometrist said he could make lenses to fit anything, including scuba mask. At that point, I had two functional masks. He's an...

What are the odds this is true?

I saw this story and wondered . . . Shocking pics show diver’s horrifically swollen body FOUR YEARS after suffering the bends that caused him to balloon by FOUR STONE

My farmer John / Shorty is obsolete. ??

Bought a 3mm farmer john and a 3mm shortie using the same logic I do for other cold weather gear - layering is a good idea. Now I've got a shortie for use in the pool or balmy water, or I can put 'em both on, where I've got 6mm on my core. Has worked out well for me - but I am cold tolerant...

    traveling with wet suits

If I can lay wetsuits on the balcony of my hotel room in the sun, it drives in a few hours. Lacking that, we have dried gear by laying it out all over a motel room and putting the heat on high. Wait an hour, turn A/C on low. Repeat repeatedly. We tend to leave the room during this process...

    Headaches? Sinus Problems? Thoughts...

Headaches could well be tension, trying to learn new stuff, doing it all correctly, etc. I use a nasal spray like Afrin before I dive; helps to clear it all out for me. Your headaches could also be from a Co2 buildup partly due to the hard-breathing regs. Note: I not a medical professional...

Dead woman discovered - White Star Quarry, Ohio

When getting involved in another's train wreck, I have had success at playing dumb (my so-called "friends" will argue I am not playing). Quick introduction followed by asking questions of the potential wreck victim, as if I know nothing about the site, situation or whatever. Gives me a chance...

Mike Nelson and Sea Hunt inspires another

When Hillary and Norgay climbed Everest, I was a mere lad. But it was the last unexplored place on earth (or so I thought). The Jacques Cousteau invented the aqua-lung and had his show on TV. I realized there was a LOT of unexplored land covered by water that could be explored. Then Mike...

    Colored Lenses in Dive Mask

I have a clear and a yellow SeaVision, both in bifocals. Wish I had purchased a red and a clear. Got the yellow thinking it might help contrast in murky quarries, which we have around here. I don't notice the color once in the water. Masks are great. Scrips are cut right. I'll buy 'em...

    Sharkskin + xxxx

I bought a 3 mil farmer john and a 3 mil shorty. The latter is great for temperate climes, and if I layer them, I've got six mil in all the important areas, with 3 on the arms and below the knees. Add gloves and boots and I'm good to go - anywhere I'm going. Not brutally cold in other words...

Divers without Diving... How do you do it?

If you live in the SouthEast (doesn't have to be Florida), Florida and the East Coast becomes a day's drive away. Okay, the Keys are two days' drive or one really looooooong day drive.

    looking for Destin area diving

You are not too far from Panama City Beach (< an hour). Slightly better diving in terms of viz, wrecks, etc. The two you've mentioned in Destin are both rock solid operations. I've dove (dived?) with both. Dive Locker in PCB is one I'd suggest as well.

    prescription dive masks

Don't know whether you need bifocals or not. If not, your LDS can probably offer replacement lenses for the masks they sell. If you need bifocals, seavision gets my vote. Nothing to lose, fall out or fail. They sell masks and can put them in a wide range of masks you might like.

Florida Keys, Best Dive center/boat and the best Reef to dive

Key Largo should be your starting point. I dove with Rainbow Reef and had two weeks of fun with no complaints. Motels are within easy walking distance of the boat. The best reef to dive would be the one your boat captain takes you to on that day. They know that current and visibility changes...
