    Hose routing for backmount doubles?

SM regs are the neatest set up, the 5th port makes it much neater. I have both regs flat, facing in. Same routing as shown above, but I think I utilise my inflator hoses in reverse. I don't have the collision between the two 5th ports that the pictured Halcyon regs have. I think the regs being...

    Sherwood Vision: Air Pressure Failure

Digital pressure gauges display a reading from a piezo transducer. Basically it's a plate that converts the mechanical stress from the air pressure, to a voltage. The precise voltage is proportional to the pressure and that is the value displayed. It would be been interesting if you connected it...

Have you reached a Diving "Plateau. "

I went pro and then tapped out. Finished my IE, worked for a few weeks and then left. Alarm bells were ringing when half of the IDC was about sales and trip pricing etc. I understand the sales and marketing of continuing education, but I did the instructor training for the knowledge and the...

Looking for suggestions on Sidemount AI pod setup

If you want to run both, I'd have the SPGs from the top port as a lollipop. I took my SPGs off completely. You could also try the 90⁰ elbow off the splitter and run the SPG towards the tank valve and then back up, like a stage tank.

Air Integrated Computers "Could Potentially Kill You."

You can argue AI adds disadvantage in that you call the dive if you lost air pressure monitoring. This is an existing control for all diving equipment failures, even those where we carry redundancy. I've had a few dives called over the years, none due to AI. The only AI issues I've observed...

    Looking for stiff, negative fins

The F1s, no one I know takes them when they fly. Popular fin but far too heavy for travel. It's always good to have effective alternatives that save excess baggage.

Air Integrated Computers "Could Potentially Kill You."

With Suunto, in about 175 dives, I had one sync issue pre-dive that were saved with having the SPG. When I changed to the Perdix AI, I haven't had an issue nor seen an issue with other divers. It just works. For years I have carried an SPG on my main reg and never used it. The SPGs primary value...

Initial tec decompression diving/trimix course – advertised vs. actual duration

Rory, If you have a good understanding with the local instructor, I'd do the TDI course. You don't have to drink beers with them, what is key is can you respect and learn from them. Go with what you think is right, change your mind if you need to. For me, my family, job etc; I just cannot do...

    Deep stop hand signal?

I can't speak for Mares, but circa 2008 with a Suunto, the deep stop only kicked in well beyond recreational limits. Even when there was decompression it was still unlikely there'd be a deep stop. We did a swag of 20min 42-44m dives with no deep stop. We did a 10min 60m dive and the first stop...

PADI - Night Dive not mandatory since when?

By 2007/08, I recall the compulsory dives being deep and navigation. We used to run a night dive from the boat but it was entirely optional, start at sunset on a fringing reef in about 5m of water for 45mins. Twilight was the first 10-15mins so a great intro to night diving. Pretty much everyone...

    New/First Kit

Gauges and regs don't need to match. Be a bit more careful with the Octo as the 1st intermediate pressures can vary between regulator designs and increase with depth. It's not a huge deal, especially with shallow dives. Consider a wrist mount computer, much easier to manage and much lighter than...

    Looking for stiff, negative fins

There's some good threads on here about fin buoyancy, but the SP jet is heavier and then Hollis F1 would be the most negative. But agree with Tbone, you sound heavy. 25lbs plus steel, you must bob like a cork without your gear on.

Quiz - Recreational Dive Planner™ - Max Time

The question is the PADI tables though; rather than what is sensible based on your training.

    Done Diving Wet

I went second hand. I kept a very close eye on eBay and Facebook marketplace scuba groups etc. Eventually a membrane suit came up. The guy had ordered online and got his sizes wrong, so worked for me. Then I found a clearance sale on rock boots and undergarments, then I had to get fins with a...

The untold story of the daring cave divers who saved the Thai soccer team

I can thoroughly recommend the book 'Against all odds' by Challen and Harris, it's a great read. The 'Speaking Sidemount' podcast is also a great discussion. There's also some TV coverage and interviews on YouTube. One has the Thai commander who spoke in awe of the Brita and how quickly they...

son wants to scuba for his 8th birthday

The ones that have that glint, they're the ones you keep talking to, discuss the higher level physiology considerations. You also role model a high standard of buoyancy and point out to them how that is a prerequisite skill to doing more advanced dives. The beauty of the PADI system is that...

son wants to scuba for his 8th birthday

So just park them in the corner and ignore them for a decade? Rubbish! 14yr old boys are the product of their environment. They need to be capable swimmers, they need to take instruction and they need supervision. They can't go diving with their friends and do dumb things, this is not...
