yes the canon housing is great, but you will want to use a strobe. as the housing sort of blocks part of the built in strobe on macro shots.

lol had the same problem with my t3i come to find out the hot shoe was not pushed all the way in so it was not firing.missed some good shark shots because of it.

I know many people that own sealife cameras, those who are honest will tell you dont do it. the system is attractive cause it comes with a housing and some with strobes but the problem is the camera is not very good.
