Recommend a place on the Kona side for divers to stay?

I'll be in Kona by Saturday afternoon :-) I called two shops and both recommended using Air BNB - we found a place that seems to be a 4 min walk from Jacks diving locker - so close to "downtown" even if not close to the boats. We have lots of friends who use airbnb a lot - but a first time...

    Womens dive watch

This blog is actually written by a diver "up north". 2018's Best Dive Watches Under $200 | Dive Watches Blog That link is best watches under $200, there are others at under $500 (I think) as well as many other price points. Here's a slightly older but women's watches specifically. 2016's...

    Robot hunter for lionfish

Great idea, just not around me when I'm wearing my zebra stripe wet suit, OK? Spear-toting robot can guard coral reefs against invasive lionfish

    Hawaii anyone....?

I will be in Kona in 21 days, and Kauai the week after that. I'm not worried about the Kona area, it's supposed to be not affected, but I should call and check I guess. If the planes are a flyin', I'm a goin' ! I'm a little worried about the Kauai Hanalei area, as the river there has already...

Length of regulator hoses - recreational setup

Well, one of the local LDS had a sale last week, and while I went in for defog and maybe a new mask strap, I ended up with a new wetsuit, 40" hose and 90 elbow. No defog and no new mask strap. Go figure. (Mostly kidding) Thanks to the advice above from tbone1004, here's what the finished...

Suggestion Time for a new SSL cert (Legacy Symantec cert)

Hi, thanks for SB - my favorite online hangout. Thanks esp for the excellent moderation... I just noticed that the SSL cert is a "legacy Symantec certificate". I only noticed because I typically run Chrome Canary, which is 1-3 months ahead of the stable release. Canary (Chrome v70) has started...

Length of regulator hoses - recreational setup

It looks like for the 40" under the arm, that the hose should come off the bottom LP port, as in one pointing down, if possible, as opposed to one of the horizontal ports? For example, as on the Atomic Z2 first stage, use the port on the end that points down when the reg is mounted?

    Airport lounges

Got this response: Jermaine Mendoza (LoungeBuddy) Jul 20, 9:49 PM PDT Hi, Thanks for contacting LoungeBuddy! At this time the LoungeBuddy app is only available on iOS. We are working to enhance the Android app, however we do not have a timeline for its release. We appreciate your...

    Airport lounges

Something strange going on. My phone is Android. I wonder if they pulled the app for some reason after I downloaded it last year. I've got a note into LoungeBuddy support, if they answer, I'll post it here.

    Airport lounges

Get the Lounge Buddy app for your phone. When you register the app, you go through the long list of cards that give you different lounge access, it then tells you which lounges you can use, based on where you are. Hint - the US American Express is waaaay down the list, beginning with...

    Good masks for mustache?

I am due for a new mask, as my prescription has changed. I have a reasonable mustache and sometimes beard. My current mask is an Oceanic Shadow, which has worked out relatively well with a mustache for the past 8 years or so. Any reason to not just get another Shadow? Are there any newer...

    Lost 20-30 pounds

Congratulations. I lost about 30, and I was able to take off a little lead, from 24+ to <20 (7mm suit, back inflate BCD). I could probably do 18 now, if my one Al tank wasnt so floaty. In steel, 18 is easy, 20 is better in Al. I think I got more overall from being in better cardio shape, which...

How close do you get to your gas MOD's?

I'm not the OP, but I since I'm not a deco diver, I read this as "how close do you go to the MOD for your Nitrox mix"? Which is a question I was thinking of asking a few days ago. With EAN 32 the MOD is 112fsw, how often do people dive that to 100. Personally, I'd use it to 80, maybe 90 in...

    Dive watch for serious use

The writer at Dive Watch News, Reviews, and Info | Dive Watches Blog is a diver, and sometime mentions issues with watches that do or don't work well with dry gloves and dry suit sleeves. Best value watches I've found: some Seiko, Citizen and Casio. Some Invicta (many are "pretty" watches, some...

Is this the same Bottom Scratcher that ran out of San Diego in the late 70s and early 80s? I know I dove on a boat by that name from 79-82.

woohoo! Kona -and- Kauai this fall

Finally. I get to back to Kona and Kauai in September. I have almost everything. Places to stay, cars, flights. What's missing, you ask? DIVING! I'm looking for recommendations for dive shops for Kona and Kauai. I've been with Jack's at Kona (10 years ago!) and we were skunked on the Manta...

    The Shearwater Teric Announced

Looks great. I think it's one of the nicer non-analog watches I've seen, and the styling is very understated. I've seen more expensive watches without half the style or taste. Heck, give it an orange face setting and the DOXA Dirk whazzis-name people will buy it in droves! (Just kidding.) The...
