Probably a tri-lam from DUI. They are made here in town, and service, if any, would be a breeze. I see mostly DUI on local divers, but have started seeing some Mares X-something-or-other
Hmmm - 5'9", 200 lbs. Coldest water I'll be in is 50F (typical San Diego winter).
Today I need about 18 lbs (6 lb plate and 12 lbs of lead) for a 7mm suit with a steel tank. I expect that to go down a bit as I tune things and lose the last 10 lbs of "bioprene".
I am considering a move to a dry suit later this year. I was in the local shop to talk about a class, and purchasing options. I mentioned that I have a 35 lb wing for single tank diving. It's a Dive Rite - Voyager EXP, if that matters.
They mentioned that I'd need a larger wing to dive with a...
An update - I moved the tank higher in the cam bands just a few inches. I had it too low on the first dives. I'm trimming out just fine now.
Now that's settled, I'll drop 2 lbs from the belt pouches and see how that works.
I guess I wasn't clear - I need a little more than 20 in the old Nighthawk. So 10 in the trim pockets and the rest in the weight pockets.
7mm suit, by the way.
I had the 6 lb plate, then 14 in pockets on the BP/W belt. I was thinking putting 4 lbs at the top of the plate, leaving only 10 in my...
I have a new BP/W with only a few dives on it so far. I have noticed that I am not trimming out the way I would like - my head is too high.
On my old Knighthawk - I was putting 10 of the needed 20 lbs in the shoulder pockets - and I trimmed out very well.
I think that traditionally - you add...
Well, mixed results. First - COOOOLD! 51F at 75 ft (Ruby E) and also at 55 ft (NOSC tower). Who knows, the next step be a dry suit.
20lbs (14 on the belt and 6 for the plate) - I was at least a tad overweighted. The main thing is that I was very feet heavy. It was hard work being horizontal...
Thanks for the comments. My rule has always been "change only one thing at a time", but this time, I'm changing a lot at once.
I expect to make minor changes on almost every dive.
As to back inflate and pushing me forward, - well, I learned with an AT-PAC :-) I think it was the original "back...
OK, I did it. After decades in various regular jackets, I bought a DGX BPW - stainless steel BP and EXP 35 lb wing. It's assembled, (mostly) fitted, and I'm taking it diving this weekend. Boat diving the Ruby E wreck (80-90 ft at the bottom) in San Diego - expecting water temps of 55-60F at the...
When I re-did my cert (after a 15 year hiatus), this is pretty much the rig I used. A poodle jacket and an under arm primary with a necklaced backup.
BPW wasn't available in the rental fleet and I wasn't ready to do that, yet.
This was an SSI cert - full from scratch because it had been so...
Interesting. I first ran into this rig style in San Diego, about 8 years ago. I have no doubt that it started in Florida, and like many good ideas, spread through the dive community.
I left you (yet another review) just last week. After dithering for at least a year and reading 'the board' and way too many other places: I bought a BPW from all y'all just a few weeks ago.
But - to be honest, I am a repeat customer, and it was really a few of the ScubaBoard Bonaire invasion...
I saw those in the parking lot at the resort when we were there. Looks like pretty good build quality, nice welds, good quality hardware.
Now, getting them from Bonaire to wherever you are... is left as an exercise for the student.
I need to replace this threaded GoPro adapter; it's actually for one of my lights. It's black plastic and what looks like a threaded insert. The nut is not part of the part itself.
What do I call this thing and where can I get a replacement?
Pen for scale, because I don't have any bananas.
Did anyone make a list of the various locations visited by each boat? I was team 2, but I'm also curious to see which locations were visited by different boats on different dates.
Also... I was having so much fun, that I forgot to write them all down :-(
