Many thanks!
Yep, its an anthias...the morphology is spot on. I have some other photos with these fish in them, so perhaps I can track down the species.
About 3 inches long, hiding in a coral head at night in about 5m down:
And this is a pretty common starfish...so common I didn't write it in my log, as it happens.
Thanks!
I think there is an empirical question here. It is self-evident that there is SOME benefit to being able to purchase and take home immediately...the question really is what is the margin a customer is willing to pay for LDS service. I think Scuba Toys has a good handle on this...they're not...
I've been very happy with the Oceanic Alpha 7 SP4's I purchased for me and the wife. Sitting on about 70 dives on them combined without a peep of problem. Spent a reasonable amount of time in the 20-30 meter range and didn't see any falloff in performance...even a couple of dive to 36/38...
Fine...but I was actually responding to somwthing Steven Donathan wrote.
Which seems to be about par for how closely people are reading what I am writing.
I hate diving in the local lake and the nearest decent salt water diving in the Flower Gardens is a two day boat trip away...and the one I was supposed to go on this week was cancelled! Since it costs a minimum of $700 for a decent diving experience for me and my wife, we don't get to go all...
This is exactly my point. You are more interested in the technical aspects of diving...so you focus on those at the expense of photography. Others make different choices about where to spend their effort and dollars.
Really, is this too difficult to understand?
Perhaps. But if you're basing that opinion simply on the fact that I don't embrace a radical, restrictive view of diving...well, that's a pretty ignorant position to take.
Sigh. Did you even bother to read my post?
I am NOT, repeat NOT saying that DIR is worthless. What I am saying is that while it is clearly critical and worthwhile for divers doing some specific things it is LESS worthwhile for divers doing other things. Because of this differential in...
I'm sure he is a much more technically adept diver than I am. He should be if he is doing the dives he claims on his website. Still, I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that my basic photographic skills are more advanced than his/hers simply because it is a field I have been interested in and...
And I've certainly played around with helicopter kicks and reverse frogs. But those are techniques, not this "holistic" diving philosophy that, frankly, isn't necessary for the dives I do.
