Gave the old tail cap and pieces a bath in some CLP (Clean-Lube-Protect) gun oil, including some wire brushing etc. By the time I had it all said and done it seems to be working at about 90% of the smoothness of the new one that arrived. Thanks for the idea on this thread!
Replacement tail cap works perfectly. I also got a pair of snap ring pliers and was able to eventually loosen and take apart the original tail cap. Rust everywhere, on the threads, spring completely rusty but still had some shape and spring to it, and the inside (magnet?) piece covered in...
Send the snorkelers over to Half Moon Bay. They can snorkel plenty (we've seen an octopus, rays etc.), especially on the left side as you look out from Sundowners. Advantage that they can go out over the reef with a short swim from the far left side of the beach, and also have a place to...
Is there a lockout to prevent the button activating the light when you don't want to? That's one feature I like about the tail cap switches.
Also, if I understand correctly, you can charge the battery while it's installed. Most of the time I'm taking it out and putting it on a separate...
And a huge thank you to @JahJahwarrior for being willing to loan me his!! This is one of the main reasons I'm part of this community, the willingness to help one another out in situations like this.
Update: DRIS got back to me and said they had spoken to DR but unfortunately no tail cap assemblies available. They did offer a nice discount on a CX2, however not currently in stock and a few orders ahead of me. They also provided some alternative options that were in stock.
After reading...
Scratch the "open for another couple of hours", that's DRIS, where I bought the light from, which I will try again when open. I tried contacting DR directly, seems they're in FL but just got their answering service so I'm guessing not open at the weekend. I've sent them a message and will...
I leave for a trip in a week and just started pulling all my gear together (yeah a week or two late on being organised, what with the holidays etc.!!). Got my batteries for my CX1 all charged up and went to test and my rear button is non-functioning. Came online and found this thread. Really...
Not sure why it's two separate listings on Amazon for paperback and Kindle, but found the latter and bought. Should make for good reading during our upcoming Christmas trip to Roatan, as long as flights remain and we're able to sort out the 72 hour test!!
Got the Signatures as our first regs after a few years of renting. Have been very happy with them. If they're in your budget, you won't be disappointed or ever wish you had bought the cheaper set.
A Deep 6 Excursion on BF Sale @ $199 is way way cheaper than any AI option. So cheap that it's worth getting that to start with and putting the significant savings toward actual diving or other dive gear. The algorithm it uses is the same as the Shearwaters I believe, so in a few years if AI...
+1 Deep 6 signature. These were our first regs and very happy with them. I don't have anywhere near the experience of most on this board, but I don't think you can go wrong with these or their service model, which is very important!
I have the TG-4, but I do have lights. I started off with the camera, Olympus case and single arm strobe package (Sea & Sea YS-03). The camera by itself is incredible for macro above the waves. Underwater it's fine on it's own for snorkeling and other adventures with it being a 'tough'...
