Question How old are you and how long certified? Poll- please take part!

51, certified OW in 2014, little over 100 dives. Warm water rec diving, primarily in Roatan but willing to travel elsewhere. Went on a dive trip to Bali for our 25th wedding anniversary

Island Diving Center, West End Roatan

We've been diving with Sun Divers since 2014. They did have a change in ownership a couple years back. Still the same great service though. 2 nicely appointed boats for small groups (8-10 max usually), good boat captains, good DM's. If you need equipment it's newer and well kept. Shannon...

    Roatan, West End

That would be Mau, but pretty close!! They're a decent and newer op and he is good with UW photographers too. We are one of the owners of a lodge at Cocolobo, so if you have questions about the place, or any issues, please DM me. We've gone through some management changes and we're now back...

    Bonaire vs. Roatan

My wife is heading back to Roatan on Saturday, with a few girlfriends. My wife and one other will do some diving. The rest of the time they will be in floats outside of Sundowners/Sun Divers. They will go out to eat in West End and basically chill the whole week. We have a car there and they...

Inexpensive Primary Light for Rec Diving

Nitescuba S20 - yes it has strobe & SOS. I have a couple of their products now, the S20 and the S12 and both work really well.

Inexpensive Primary Light for Rec Diving

+1 for the CX2. Traveled with mine in the case it came with, no issues of accidental turning on, unless it also accidentally turned itself off too and I wasn't aware of it :giggle: That being said there are other good options out there, especially at that price range (or cheaper).

    Coconut Tree Divers - Roatan

They are good. Another option would be Sun Divers, small boats with attentive staff and good gear (assuming you need it).

    Roatan & Cozumel

For Roatan, West End and Coconut Tree are often well mentioned. Another option I can personally recommend is Sun Divers.

    Costa Rica or Honduras (Utila/Roatan)

West End is sketchy? What is your point of reference for that? We are there regularly and I'll let my kids 15+ be in West End on their own during the day, and on the main waterfront road in the evening. My wife and her girl friends will also eat and walk the town in the evening without...

    Question Gear Travel Bag Option

My carry-on is both wheeled (2) and has backpack straps too. I put all of my dive gear (SP Hydros Pro size M in it's backpack [for use between living accomadations and dive shop], Akona Reg bag with Deep 6 regs and Excursion DC, rash guards (2), swim trunks, couple of lights &...

    Question Gear Travel Bag Option

I like the idea of not using dive branded gear. The Eagle Creek stuff is good, but my preference is Osprey. A real lifetime warranty, top notch designs. Their gear just works well and is backed by good customer service with a no questions asked policy. Cheap? No, but it's not boutique brand...

    One night in Roatan?

We love West End and go multiple times a year, so much so that we now have a place that is also a rental, Casa Delfin (aka Lodge D at Cocolobo). Pictures: Facebook ; Cocolobo booking: Superior House - Lodge D - Vacation Home in West End We are normally there in June/July (kids out of...

Great white takes scallop diver - Mexico

It bit his head off?!! Well I guess that's better than a slow-ish death from multiple bites as it rips you apart. But man, that's just awful. And this is their on the job risk, whereas for most of us it's just an enjoyable hobby that we dive when and where we want to. I'll appreciate my...

10 year old: Best dive location for Junior Open Water Certificate?

My wife and I have 5 kids, all certified. We love to dive warm water and we like to dive in Roatan. This, for us, is a perfect place for anyone to learn to dive. The temps are warm enough that you can dive in just a swimsuit/rash guard whether you're at 15' or 100'. The reef is close enough...

    Hello from Ohio!

Welcome, from another OH diver, although the wife and I are strictly warm weather divers - so no Lake Erie (yet!!)

    TG6 with DS51's

I'd recommend the Inon S2000's for strobes with that camera, not sure if @David Haas still has some for sale or a recommendation on a good place to get them. I believe they've also just been discontinued as a replacement model is supposed to arrive soon. I put two of them on ball arms...

    Hydros Pro

Got one for myself and one for my wife back in 2019. We are both very happy with them, easy to travel with, easy to dive with, easy to clean. I'm sure I would have been just as happy with a Freedom plate and appropriate wing, maybe even a little happier, but take nothing away from the Hydros...

New Teric band - stretchy NATO band

The pins are often the weakest point. When taking off my BC while in rolling water before getting on the ladder (boat required this process) I once snagged my watch without realising it. Halfway back to the shop I went to check the time and noticed my watch missing. The DM and boat captain...
