Generally speaking there are clearly circumstances where an inverted position would come in handy. My comment was actually in reference to the earlier photo which seemed to show a sustained backwards mid-water inversion of about 45 degrees.
I think you will be fine as long as you are in reasonable good shape. Most exercises in the pool involved a lot of talking and fairly minimal swimming or exertion. The open water tests were a bit taxing by the end of the day, but it was nothing someone in decent shape couldn't handle...
I sometimes get a sense of vertigo but never any physical discomforts. However I've not yet encountered a practical reason to invert myself to such an extreme angle.
Yes they can exist independent of one another. But I would say during the act of scuba diving, which involves striving for the most efficient means of propulsion and control within the water column, they are fundamentally related.
Yes of course it's worth it if the instruction is sound, it is all additional diving experience. I think what most seasoned divers object to or roll their eyes at is the word 'Master' on the card. If it simply indicated say Level III or IV Recreational Diver then far fewer would be griping.
I would agree, and certainly to some it comes more naturally while others really struggle. Surely it's the most lacking basic skillset among rec divers. It really should be incorporated more into O/W rather than considered a 'specialty' skill.
For new divers I would recommend PPB over any of the others. It would be invaluable- something you will utilize on every single dive- best to start early and get it right so it becomes second nature. Proper trim and buoyancy will help immensely to safety do cavern and wreck penetrations. For the...
Didn't read every post.. but I'll answer that I would be fine with it if he/she alerted me before the dive that they would like to practice a particular procedure. Just springing it on fellow divers unannounced when there isn't an emergency would obviously not be a good idea.
You were left alone for a quarter of an hour on your knees on the lake bottom so I think you have good reason to be angry. That said I do echo other sentiments, you should have followed standard dive protocol long before it got to 14mins. Is it possible your instructor thought your buddy was...
It's been a long time but we did one fill per day for two relatively short checkout dives. Don't recall what we paid but refills are $10 according to their site. Max depth is 9M, although there is at least one deeper shaft. They have sunk a lot of old junk to see and there are few panfish about...
It is indeed sad and I think many people care, but there is so scant information, most non-official and some conflicting, that it makes any discussion wildly speculative at this point. Three months seems an inordinately long time before police can open an investigation however.. good grief...
I'm a little surpirsed how this incident went unnoticed for so long- the lack of transparency makes it seem all the more sketchy. In her own inquiries it seems Mrs. Cappuccino received some conflicting information from those aboard about where he was found, one account on the surface while...
Jardins de la Reina indeed has had rave reviews as far as Caribbean diving goes. Unfortunately that cannot be said outside the sanctuary. The coastlines are over fished and reefs are in trouble.
I've had a few pounders when I tried to control breathing on deep dives. I quickly resolved that I'd rather lose 10 mins of bottom time than spend the rest of the day with a pounding headache. Just breathe easy and relax.
