Dive Masters What Computers Do You Use?

Aeris Atmos II, just switched to an Epic.

    mild discomfor

I'd look at ascent rates, like one of the first responses -- it makes a huge difference to do a really slow ascent as compared to what I was like when new. I often take about a minute coming up from my safety stop. Also, I've become a big believer in a mid-depth period. On a wreck dive I do...

Why should I get a computer?

Hmmm, I'm feeling a bit off, want more margin, think I'll only dive to four bars nitrogen loading displayed rather than 5. Real rocket science :) (I'm a techie, but life's too short -- I don't bother reprogramming them.)

Don't steal my gear-I get mad dead quick.

As others have said, marking is good. Indelible paint stick marker. Hint -- don't actually try to engrave things, in general, especially regs. While entertaining for technicians, getting metal slivers into a regulator's innards isn't a good thing to do :) I either have an angel looking out...

    Keys in early/mid November?

Don't think "small" -- call them "cozy" :) Back in '05 it was cool to see why they called my place the Gecko Room :) I will contact speargirl -- thanks for the suggestion.

    Clean slate - but how?

I half expected Mrs. A to say that she uses Vegemite :)

    Female BC Recommendations

GF has a Genesis Athena, seems nice and in the price range that you're looking at. I'm sure the Dive Rite'll be super, too -- any gear is good if you're using it :)

    First (maybe only?) dive computer

$300 gets an Atmos II console from Scubatoys -- it's the predecessor to the XR, Nitrox capable. Computer, SPG, quick release HP hose -- a very nice computer, mine's been rock solid. I just picked up an Epic, put the Atmos II on a wrist mount for Goatfish. Only thing missing is a compass --...

    Clean slate - but how?

Regular pencil eraser seems to work fine on mine. I've switched to using a plastic pencil with 12 lead points and an eraser (12 for $3) -- no metal to rust, easy to switch to a new point, life's good :)

    Pony bottle

I back mount my 19, on a QuickDraw. It's pretty much unnoticeable, I keep the reg clipped at my waist.

DM's--how much experience did you have?

Officially started at around 90 dives, at the end of my first dive season -- I quickly figured out that I really liked diving, DM gave me a chance to keep working skills and help other people.

ever took a non diver to a shallow dive?

Time to resurrect the accident at Mexico Point (lost in the SB crash), the novice, 1st year diver who played instructor and lost a young woman in less than 10' of water. He was clueless about fitting himself out (couldn't sink cleanly), overweighted the family friend, didn't have basic rescue...

    OW checkout dives.........

They're going to have a question, at this rate: "How many PADI pros does it take to read the standards?" :) From the 2007 General Standards & Procedures change pages: "For training purposes, an open water dive is a dive during which a student diver spends the majority of time at a depth of at...

    C-Cards

Counting as the first dive towards a specialty is, I believe, up to the Instructor. "may credit toward the first dive"

    What is the best drysuit?

The one I'm diving in. Pick what one wants to do. Something appropriate for a warm water diver, clear, is unlikely to cut it for 34F and kind of nasty. Like cars -- there are some beautiful sports coupes that aren't worth a darn if I want to go on rutted gravel roads with a load of lumber. Some...

    Roatan V Utilia?

August '05 I did Deep Blue in Utila, August '06 was Fantasy Island in Roatan. If I went back, I'd go for Utila, more of a pure diving locale and I really did seem to see more. If you want more night life non-diving things, the Roatan resorts probably offer more, just that I really go on...

    St. Lawrence this weekend...anybody?

Connie clockwise shouldn't be an issue, if your wife has anywhere near the number of dives in as you do. Unless something has changed, the current there is noticeable, but nowhere near as strong as some places, and it's a real shore dive -- a walk-in, stack is above the surface (quite shallow)...
