My personal solo limit is 30M. Besides potential narcosis issues, the dive operators would likely not want me diving solo deeper than 30M.
I only buddy dive with the "open water certified" wife and son who are both limited to 18M. So when buddy diving I am more severely limited!
Yes. Really good if you like raw seafood - which the entire family does.
Don't want to steal the thread but reminds me of a story.... When very young I told my daughter that the eyeballs of fish were the best part. She really loved them. When she got older she told me in no uncertain terms...
I do two very different types of diving. One is smelling the roses and looking to see anything new and/or unusual. Even after a few thousand dives this still happens occasionally. The other type of diving is hunting/gathering. Mostly crayfish (lobster). It can be very challenging.
Ouch. I earned my Master Diver certificate by taking these pretty useful specialty courses:
1) Deep
2) Wreck
3) Self reliant/solo
4) Enriched air
5) O2
6) Dry suit
I am pretty sure that you can easily hear a nearby submarine when diving. My family was sailing at night when I heard propeller noise. Thinking it was a nearby ship, I went topside to make sure we weren't in danger of colliding. No ship to be seen anywhere, including on radar. The...
Thank you everyone with your suggestions.
In retrospect my problem was that I have a large 5 foot SMB and was deploying it in shallow water 5M. I had to let go and let out line before the SMB was even half full. Even on the surface it was not nearly full.
This may not be the right forum to ask but would like to know how you can properly inflate your dsmb fully without being towed to the surface when it's only half full.
DUMB IS DSMB AFTER SPELL CHECKER GETS DONE WITH IT LOL. (Mod edit, fixed your title for you)
He took after his dad. Let me explain... I'm 73 and self taught when 20 years old before PADI existed and certifications were required to rent gear. We dove off our own boat and I didn't get certified till age 66 (the wife made me take the OW class with her). I learned a lot in the OW...
I sympathize with you. Having to pay for four kids to get certified can blow the budget for many families.
The fact that all four of your kids love diving is great for you, them and the industry. Think about how much more it is going to cost once they get certified and want to own the their...
Son and I happened upon a submerged full size cruising yacht while diving at Minerva Reef 250 miles south of Tonga. Don't know what happened to the occupants.
When I married my SO I had been diving for 7 years. She had no interest and didn't dive for 35 years despite the fact that our son started diving with me at age 13.. Then at age 64 she changed her mind, took the OW class and started diving. Now uses a drysuit and owns a BP.
What caused her...
Under no load an alkaline battery voltage is going to be about 1.26V when discharged to 30% of capacity. Under a light load like your typical dive computer 1.20V would likely be a good time to replace the battery.
I used to put my electronic keyfob in the car and use the physical key to lock it. Years later I learned that the car had a button on the handle that would unlock the car if the keyfob was in the vacinity. Luckily no-one ever opened my car while I was shore diving.
I believe that failure to notice you're getting low on air is a major contributor. I also think that this is less likely with new divers since they will be feeling less secure than the more experienced diver.
In New Zealand divers die too often because they get so absorbed with what they...
Sorry to hear about your negative experience. I'm quite happy with the Mares Puck Pro. Both the wife and I use them quite frequently. Soak them in fresh water after a day of diving and try not to press the buttons too much while underwater. Considering the environment it's actually quite an...
