I'm With You Cliff, but every now and then I like to come back to StupidBoard and kick the hornets nest of ignorance with the boot of reason. of course it's usually in the Spearfishing section ;)

    spear guns

 yes, you don;t want to become one of those fingerless Euro gun using freaks! don;t you know none of us have any fingers left because of those evil wishbones! infact, spearfisherman must HATE having fingers, because Euro style guns far out number anyother type of speargun world wide...

Which Reg? Sherwood Or Dive Rite?

Out of those two I'd go with the Diverite. Canadian Diving is cold. stick to something in a balenced Enviro Sealed Diaphram. ( I like the USD/Aqualung or Apeks Regs) look around for a used Conshelf if you want low cost and bombproof design. Love then. and I can do a complete teardown...

what spear gun to buy? Marc Valintin?

Jimbo, there is a Freedive Spearfishing trip to Vancouver Island (north end) in June. It's being put together by folks (me includ.) from www.deeperblue.net. check it out of you like, the thread is in the Spearo Network Section. I am networking with a liveaboard out of Kitamat/Prince Rupert...

    Suggestions on first Speargun/or sling

look for a little Eurogun (I like omer) in the 60cm - 75cm range. I have hunted the same species in fresh water and the thin euro shafts do very little damage to the light flesh of those game fish. a big clunker like a JBL or a Biller is going to waste lots of meat. www.spearfishinggear.com...

I'm not sure of legality with hand catching, but please remember subaquatic spearfishing OF ANY KIND is illegal in ontario.

    what speargun's length to choose?

you won't go wrong with either. the 100cm gives you a little more range and striking power then the 90. go with which ever one makes your eyes twinkle :D

    Freediving Fins

I have dove Mares Avanti Quattros back to back with my freediving fins. (at the time Plasitic Cress Garas). there was NO CONTEST. the Gara's were a better fin for deeper freediving. and my Omer bats, a fiberglass fin, are even better then that. I'll never go back to a plastic fin...

    what speargun's length to choose?

get the 100cm with a singe 20mm band, and rig it with a single wrap. and go hunting! I shoot with a couple former-IDF guys from time to time, good shots :D

    Hey Cliff :D

    what speargun's length to choose?

I don;t think you can go wrong with either. I'm 175cm and can handle a 100cm gun no problem. I think the bigger question is "how strong are you?" wrestling some of those 20mm bands takes a thick upperbody :D can you try some out before you buy?

    what speargun's length to choose?

I owned a Beuchat Mundial Elite 96cm (I think they market it as a 100cm) for about 5yrs. a GREAT gun! I installed a JBL rail on it which made a world of difference (more quiet, faster reloads, and a little better in accuracy) but I belive the new Carbon models have an integrated rail. with...

    what speargun's length to choose?

going to guess it's a Euro Style gun you're picking up? remember a single 20mm will be more accurate then 2x16mm (in most cases), and a lot of Euro trigger mechs can't (safely) handle 2x20mm and if you're shooting a single wrap (on a 100cm gun should yeild 3.5m range), a solo 20mm is more...
