    Finally, a BC for Freedivers!

it is a step in the right direction as has been stated but I wonder how much use it will by serious freedivers, those that are in the highest risk group for SWB. what is the #1 motivating factor in freedivign gear design? Hydrodynamics. that belt is not anywhere close to hydrodynamic. so one...

    Finally, a BC for Freedivers!

I'm sure there will be a market for it, somewhere. the same guys that buy spare air/etc. very unstreamlined and for divers in this part of the world, a kelp magnet.

New to this - anything I need to know?

keeping the snorkle out of your mouth while diving is a safety measure as well. if you do blackout having your mouth shut can prevent aspriation of water. lots of controversy around this, but is a small thing to remember and could save your life, well worth it.

New to this - anything I need to know?

Lamnid, there are lots of UK Freedivers on www.deeperblue.net. the best advice I can give to a beginner is to find a mentor/experienced buddy.

    Blackout idea ...

I should know better then to argue Freediving on a Scuba board. you're the only "Freediver" I know of that recomends a vest. you consistantly give out poor advice. I'm either correct, or you're so far ahead of the current established norms in freedivign and spearfishing that the 99.9% of...

    Blackout idea ...

yes, and we all know SEALs are Freedivers and Spearfisherman? VERY different purpose of a vest for those lads. do you also carry small arms, explosives, and other combat equipment while you're freediving? and remeber folks, the governement always knows whats best for us! ya'wol!

    Blackout idea ...

http://www.freedive.net/chapters/SWB3.html education. a wonderful thing. the Doc sums it up nicely.

    Blackout idea ...

be advised a Vest will do NOTHING for you in the event of a SWB. and adds to entaglement hazard and loss of streamlining. I don't know any serious freedivers or spearfisherman that wear one for this reason. there are NO warning signs or symptoms of a shallow water blackout. 9m. you...

    exotic fish

When I lived overseas I had over 150gals of Salt Water Aquariums. I caught every fish, invertibrate, etc I put in them. just like hunting for my food, I value something much more if I was the one to provide it. plus, after working in a massive (200 tank) aquarium store, I'd prefer to...

    Safely Practicing CESA

+1 I rig my kit so that a CESA should never be an option. if my back gas fails I have a slung AL30. murphy would be working overtime to have them both fail on the same dive.

    Pole Spear Recomendations

I really Like John Martin's pole spears. you can find him on ebay under "Linghunt" or "linghunter". better quality then the JBL, and less money. he'll also build to spec. very very happy with mine.

    Speargun Question

if you hunt rivers you need to think about a gun with a low profile for tracking against the current. I typically use a small euro style gun or a pole spear for these tasks.

    Fresh water gun

I hunt a lot of lakes with simmilar viz. a pole spear fo a 55-75cm Euro gun seems to work best for me. thinner faster shafts do much less damage to the delicate meat of most freshwater fish.
