    SoCal diving advice

so looks like I'm going to find myself in El Monte for a big chunk of January & February. Would like to get out for a few dives - Scuba or Free. any thoughts on spots to go within a few hours of LA? Shore Dives? charter operations? pretty much open to any dive, at any experience level...

    Merino, really?

in my capacity as a hunting guide I use Merino Socks, long undies, and a sweater. yes it works, and works well. very soft and warm.

    titan lx? anyone

what he said. Titan is a basic, bombproof design that if cared for will last a LONG time. as for a redundant SPG.... Why would you DOUBLE your potential points of failure in the name of redundancy? makes no sense. Cobra3 question: put 200ish hours on an original cobra, never a hickup.

    Merino, really?

I have been using pinnacle's 4mm Merino/kevlar gloves for freediving & spearfishing for a couple years now. very impressed, they are easily as warm as my 5mm gloves, but with less bulk. being kevlar gloves they let water in through the stitching in places, which is a bit annoying, but still...

ways to carry a pony bottle

you're really hell bent on my posting my profile pic. don't like taking the extra effort to make that one mouse click to see it? ever been in a net? I used to dive around lots of them, 100's of hours. been wrapped up in a few. it's no picnic. now I dive in the tick kelp beds of BC's coast...

ways to carry a pony bottle

I think you're confused too. one has nothing to do with the other. your blanket statement of the lack of entanglement hazards in your slice of the ocean speaks to extreme complacency. complacency kills. we'll see what happens when you scooter yourself into an invisible monofilliment fishing...

    Views on ice diving?

Helping pretty girls out of their drysuits and into Irish Coffees post ice-dive = far from boring.

ways to carry a pony bottle

I must have missed the joke? that setup looks pretty scary to me. but hey, your life. (I saved the pic for my students, nylon rope? epic) biggest problem with back mounted pony/bailout bottles is that in the event of an entanglement, you'll have to take off your gear to repair it...

ways to carry a pony bottle

no point in carrying 3. if you're solo, sling a bailout, and ditch the spare-air.

100 HP or 130 HP for single diving?

been diving a single E8-130 for quite a few years now. it is an excellent single tank for the deep coldwater diving I do up here. plenty of gas, takes weight off my belt, and balances very well. I went the other way, I split my doubles into singles after a riding accident buggered my knee....

    The Cove

as a working professional hunter, it has taken a lot of effort to convince many in my circle of friends to see this "greenpeacy enviro fluff piece". but they, as I told them they would be, were very surprised and inspired by the way this movie was put together. I can remember seeing photos of...

    First BCD - BP/W?

I dive the LCD 30, but I am primarily a drysuit diver, it's a littler larger then I need for warm water dives, but isn't bothersome, serves both duties very well. bomb proof wing, I really like it. the rubber tank support, combined with a BP made to take cam bands through it, is super...

    First BCD - BP/W?

I went with the deep sea supply right. no STA needed, good price. wish I would have known about BP/W setup from the beginning, hundreds of hours wasted in jackets ;) www.deepseasupply.com spent nearly 100hrs in this rig in warm water, SS plate, 3mm suit and an AL80 tank. BP/W truly is the...
